Our tutors and staff in Brantford consist of passionate educators who love inspiring children to succeed. Warm, caring and great at relating to kids, our tutors in Brantford know how to engage and motivate each child in a personal way—building confidence and smiles, as well as skills and better scores.     Center Director

    As Centre Director, Carolyn is the heart and soul of Sylvan Brantford. A former teacher at Central Baptist Academy, Carolyn chose a career in tutoring services because she  believes all students can succeed and wants to give them the confidence and skills that come from personalized learning. She studied at Redeemer University in Ancaster where she received her BA/BEd and is also a certified OCT member. When Carolyn isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her spending time with her large family or playing with her thirteen fabulous grandchildren.

    Director of Education

    Tom has worked at Brantford Sylvan Learning Centre since October 2013. He is a graduate from the University of Windsor, where he received a Bachelor of Mathematics and Bachelor of Education with Intermediate/Senior qualifications. Previous to joining the Brantford Sylvan Learning team, Tom worked as an independent tutor. He enjoys tutoring students in a variety of subjects such as mathematics, statistics, and computer science. In his free time, Tom enjoys watching/playing sports, playing/composing music, and statistics/optimization work.

    Stephanie has worked at Brantford Sylvan Learning Centre since May 2005. She is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario where she received a Ph.D. in mathematics and of the University of New Brunswick where she received a Bachelor of Education. Previous to Brantford Sylvan Learning Centre, Stephanie worked as an instructor at the University of New Brunswick and an occasional teacher in Fredericton, NB. She enjoys tutoring students in a variety of subjects such as mathematics, reading, writing, French, science and music. When Stephanie isn't tutoring, she enjoys serving as an organist and pianist at church and various community venues.

    Elementary School Teacher

    Debi has worked at Brantford Sylvan Learning Centre since December 2013. She is a graduate of Wilfrid Laurier University where she received her Honours Bachelor of Arts and Western University where she completed her Bachelor of Education. Debi also has additional qualifications in Developmental Reading and English as a Second Language. Previous to Brantford Sylvan Learning Centre Debi worked as a teacher for Central Baptist Academy. She enjoys tutoring students in a variety of subjects such as Academic and Beginning Reading, Language Arts, Math, and Robotics. In her free time Debi enjoys hiking, photography and volunteering with children.

    Jessica is part of the Brantford team at Sylvan.  While Jessica has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in teaching reading, history and STEM club.    She studied at Nipissing University and Wilfried Laurier University, where she received a BA. and B Ed with a minor in History. When Jessica isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her reading, volunteering in the community, and spending time with family.

    Reeva, a tutor in Brantford, has a very kind and gentle personality and is well liked by all students at the centre. She enjoys tutoring students in a variety of subjects such as Math, Reading, and Science. She graduated from York University, where she received an honours Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Education.  When Reeva is not at Sylvan, she is a teacher with the Grand Erie School Board and enjoys listening to music and playing badminton. 
  • Stephanie O'Reilly, OCT, Tutor

    Stephanie became a member of the Sylvan Brantford and Simcoe team in October 2017. She graduated from Queen's University with a Bachelor of Education and finds great joy in teaching writing and history to students.  Prior to coming on board, Stephanie worked as a club house attendant at Apollo Valley Gold Club.  When Stephanie isn't working, you can find her reading her favourite books and riding horses.

    Christina has worked at the Brantford Sylvan Learning Centre since July 2018. She graduated with a Bachelor of Education from Brock University, and an honours in Bachelor of Arts from the McMaster University. Before joining the Brantford Sylvan team, Christina worked as a sales associate for Carter's. Christina has many tutoring talents, and tutors students in reading and writing at Sylvan. In her free time, Christina enjoys baking and going to the movies.
  • Christie Brimmer, Tutor

    Christie has worked at Sylvan Learning Brantford since October 2018.  She is a graduate of the University of Ottawa, where she received a Honors Bachelor in Human Kinetics.  She went over to Australia in 2017 to complete my Graduate Diploma in Secondary Education at the University of the Sunshine Coast.  Previously, Christie worked as a supply teacher for Chancellor State College in Australia.  She enjoys tutoring students in a variety of subjects such as Science (Biology), Health, Anatomy and English.  In her free time, Christie enjoys staying active and playing sports such as hockey, soccer and rugby.
  • Julia Kalar, Tutor

    Julia has worked at Brantford Sylvan Learning since February 2019.  She is a graduate of Brock University, where she received a Bachelors of Child and Youth Studies.  Julia has completed four additional qualification courses since graduating in 2017, including math and reading.  Previously, Julia worked as a children's cooking instructor for The Boys and Girls Club.  She enjoys tutoring students in a variety of subjects such as math and literary.  In her free time, Julia enjoys camping, hiking, and conoeing.
