    Executive Director and Franchise Owner

    Alfred is responsible for meeting Sylvan's high operating standards and ensuring that our families enjoy the many benefits that Sylvan has to offer. Alfred graduated from University of Manitoba with a degree in Actuarial Mathematics. His lifelong love for math and passion for learning has lead him to Sylvan where he takes his prior business and leadership experience to elevate Burlington's youth. When he isn't at Sylvan, you'll find him volunteering as a Big Brother, playing a variety of different sports and trying to convince others that actuaries aren't boring people!
  • Dr. Suman Joseph, Centre Director

    Dr. Suman Joseph

    Centre Director

    As Centre Director, Suman is responsible for the day-to-day management of Sylvan in Burlington. She is very passionate about education and, being a mom herself, she enjoys meeting with Sylvan's parents and helping them understand the individual learning needs of their children. Suman is also a very accomplished academic herself, with a B.Sc in Biology & Chemistry, a Master's Degree in Biochemistry, and Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics. She spent several years in medical and scientific research before completing her B.Ed and becoming an Ontario Certified Teacher. When not at Sylvan, Suman enjoys spending time at home with her husband and children. In her downtime, she enjoys Mystery TV & Novels.
  • Jessica Jolink, Director of Education

    Jessica Jolink

    Director of Education

    Jessica oversees the educational integrity of our programs, managing and training our team of tutors here at Sylvan Burlington. A former manager of a boutique in Hamilton, Jessica brings a wealth of knowledge to Sylvan. Jessica graduated from McMaster University in 2015 with her B.A in Health, Aging, and Society. She then continued her education at Niagara University and now has her Masters of Science in Early Childhood and Childhood Education and is certified with the Ontario College of Teachers. When Jessica isn't at Sylvan, you'll find her doing her favorite activities, shopping, cuddling her cats, or at a late-night workout.
  • Jessica Mulay, Lead Teacher

    Jessica Mulay

    Lead Teacher

    Jessica is a recent graduate from Brock University with her Bachelor’s Degree in Child and Youth Studies. Jessica works as a lead teacher at Sylvan Burlington with her main area of focus being with children in the Primary/Junior grade levels. Jessica aspires to help create an inclusive environment where each child can attain their full academic potential and make each tutoring session enjoyable. When Jessica isn’t at Sylvan you’ll find her spending time with friends, enjoying the outdoors, or at the gym. 
  • Alex Scott-Westfield, Tutor

    Alex Scott-Westfield


    Alex is a recent graduate with a B.Sc in Applied and Industrial Mathematics from Ontario Tech University. Alex feels a sense of accomplishment and joy through tutoring young students, particularly in Math, Chemistry, and Physics. When Alex is not at Sylvan, he can be found studying at home, listening to music, going for long walks, or playing games.
  • Michael Bartlett, Teacher

    Michael Bartlett


    Michael is an OCT Certified teacher in Burlington, Ontario with a gift for working with kids. While Michael has many tutoring talents, he finds the greatest joy in teaching students reading and writing skills. He studied Education at York University and Visual Arts at the University of Ottawa. When Michael isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find him painting, taking a road trip north, or working on his children's book.
  • Chelsea Tanchip, Tutor

    Chelsea Tanchip


    Chelsea loves helping children appreciate and master the process of learning over simply performing well in school. She teaches a variety of subjects at Sylvan but is especially enthusiastic about reading and writing. Chelsea holds a B.Sc Honours in Cognitive Science and Linguistics from the University of Toronto. Outside of Sylvan, she likes to read, learn languages, and take long walks. 
  • Matthew Mascola, Teacher

    Matthew Mascola


    Matt has worked at Sylvan of Burlington since the winter of 2018. With a B.Sc in Kinesiology, and a graduated with his Master's in Physiotherapy at McMaster University. Matthew has a passion for working with children and helping them achieve their full academic potential. Matt completed teachers college at Brock University, is OCT certified, and currently teaching on the Halton Catholic School Board. While Matt has many tutoring talents, he finds the greatest joy in Math and Science tutoring. When Matt isn't at Sylvan you'll find him participating in multitudes of sports ranging from back-flips at gymnastics, to ice hockey at the local ponds.
  • Kugi Tharmakulasekaram, Tutor

    Kugi Tharmakulasekaram


    Kugenthini is a recent graduate from McMaster University with a bachelor's in Chemical Engineering. Currently, she is a continuous improvement lead at Cascades. While Kugenthini has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in tutoring mathematics and science. Kugenthini has many years of experience tutoring kids of all age groups. When Kugenthini isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her playing volleyball or binge-watching Netflix shows.
  • Mercedes Pisano, Tutor

    Mercedes Pisano


    Mercedes is an inspiring science teacher who currently works as a zookeeper at Little Ray's Nature Centre. With a B.Sc in Zoology and Ecology, Mercedes's passion lies in teaching kids and adults of all ages about the wonders of our natural world. Her dedication to teaching has led her to be a tutor in many subjects including Math and English. When not at Sylvan, Mercedes can be found hanging out with her reptile friends or tucked in a corner reading a good book.

    Kelly Walker


    Kelly is an Elementary School Teacher in Hamilton and OCT Certified. One with a gift for working with kids. While Kelly has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in literacy and math tutoring. She studied at Brock University graduating with a B.A. in Child Youth Studies. Kelly is very kind and patient when working with children and has had a passion for teaching for many years. When Kelly isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her reading, shopping, and spending time with family and friends.
  • Patrycja Jazwiec, Tutor

    Patrycja Jazwiec


    Patrycja is a Ph.D. candidate at McMaster University. She graduated from McMaster University with a B.Sc specializing in Molecular Biology & Genetics and minoring in Biochemistry. Patrycja has a passion for science outreach and teaching to help students succeed academically. While she has many tutoring talents, Patrycja finds the greatest joy in science tutoring. When she isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find Patrycja spending time with her family and friends, going on walks and playing with her dog, or watching a movie.
