    Executive Director and Franchise Owner

    Desmond is the Executive Director and Centre Owner. He has extensive business management expertise in Education and is focused on making all the centres in the area run smoothly. Desmond is also responsible for ensuring Sylvan's high operating standards are met and that parents and students enjoy the maximum benefits from their Sylvan experience.
  • Courtney Micucci, Education Director

    Courtney Micucci

    Education Director

    Courtney has been with Sylvan since early 2013. At Sylvan, Courtney worked as a Teacher and then Program Manager before becoming the Education Director here in Hamilton! She completed her education at the University of Western Ontario in Psychology and English, and the University of Ottawa before moving home to Hamilton. Her experience with Special Education allows her to ensure that each student has the tools he or she needs to be successful in school, and to ensure each student's program is a perfect fit for them. In her spare time, Courtney likes biking and baking.
  • Tarah Campbell, Education Coordinator

    Education Coordinator

    As Education Coordinator, Tarah is a true leader in the classroom. At Sylvan, Tarah has worked as a Teacher and Education Coordinator at Sylvan Oakville, and a Centre Director in our North Mississauga location. Tarah chose a career in the tutoring business because she believes in the power of personalized learning, and loves seeing that "aha" moment when everything clicks for a student. Tarah completed her Honours Bachelor of Arts at the University of Toronto, St. George, and her Bachelor of Education at Trent University. When Tarah isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her making crafts, spending time with her family, and going on day-trips to small Ontario towns.
  • Bonnie Thompson, Teacher

    Bonnie Thompson


    Bonnie moved to Hamilton from her home in Timmins Ontario in 2001 and joined Sylvan Hamilton shortly after. She received her BA from Laurentian University and her B.ED from Nipissing University. The majority of her career was spent with the Timmins School Board. She taught Primary Methods for Nipissing University for three summers and enjoyed working with other teachers. At Sylvan, Bonnie enjoys tutoring students in the areas of Reading, Writing, and Study Skills. In her spare time she enjoys walking her two Collie dogs, spending time with her grandchildren, gardening, volunteering at the RBG, and attending theatre performances.
  • Stephanie Burgoyne, Teacher

    Stephanie Burgoyne


    Stephanie holds a Ph.D in Philosophy and a B.Ed. in mathematics and music. Additionally, she holds a number of music degrees and diplomas such as the Associateship of the Royal Canadian College of Organists. Stephanie has taught Mathematics, English, French and Music in public high schools and Higher Mathematics in various universities over the last ten years, and enjoys tutoring all subjects at Sylvan Hamilton. She has served as Organist and Music Director at a number of churches and teaches piano and music theory privately and she is a collaborative pianist for many soloists and instrumentalists.
  • Julia Spilotro, Teacher

    Julia Spilotro


    Julia joined the Sylvan Hamilton team in May 2015. She obtained a BSc in Biological Science from the University of Guelph, and a BEd from Western. Julia’s favourite subjects to teach are science and math! When she’s not at Sylvan, Julia enjoys playing soccer, reading, and spending time with her family and friends.
  • Brent Sobol, Teacher

    Brent Sobol


    Brent graduated from the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Education in 2012 and has worked in Public and Private education since 2012. Brent joined Sylvan in December 2016. He specializes in teaching English, History, and ESL at the secondary level. He enjoys teaching English Homework Support, Reading and Writing at Sylvan. Currently, he is volunteering at Orchard Park Secondary School and studying online at Queen’s University. Brent enjoys coaching baseball and football. When not teaching, he can be found training his puppy or planning his next trip overseas. He has traveled across North and Central America, and Europe, and is always looking forward to new adventures.
  • Hanna Kim, Teacher

    Hanna Kim


    Hanna Joined Sylvan in September 2017. She received a BSc in Mathematics from McMaster University and a BEd from York University with the teachable subjects of Economics and Math. She is currently taking her MEd at York University and looking to concurrently complete a diploma in math education to deepen her understanding of students’ needs in developing numeracy skills. She loves tutoring math at Sylvan, and when she’s not at Sylvan she enjoys exercising and spending time with her friends!
