Valerie Pearson

Online Tutor

Valerie chose a career in the tutoring business 20 years ago with Sylvan Learning Medicine Hat because she saw a need for more individualized attention and wanted to work at influencing individual students while watching them gain confidence and find success. She spent 20 years as Director of the center and is now moving to a new position of an online tutor from home. With two young children, Valerie has decided to spend days at home focusing on raising the kids as her husband works away from home.
Francis Dunstan

Online Tutor

Francis, MSc Biology, is a teacher in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada, with a gift for working with kids. While Francis has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in tutoring Mathematics or Sciences. She studied at the University of Ottawa. When Francis isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her outside, enjoying nature, biking, traveling, writing, drawing, and reading books.
Chelsey Mandel

Center Director

As Center Director, Chelsey leads a committed staff of tutors towards student success for Sylvan of Medicine Hat. Chelsey is a new director and has a great passion for helping students who need extra individualized support. She wants to help every person who walks in the center doors and has decided that this is where she truly belongs. As a former substitute teacher, Chelsey has her Bachelors of Education Degree from Mount Royal University. When she is not at Sylvan, you will find her spending time with her boyfriend, 2 corgis and cat at home, baking, and cooking, or spending time with friends.
Taylor Marr

Assisting Director/STEM Coordinator

Taylor works as our math tutor as well as assisting director to Chelsey and STEM coordinator at the Center. Beginning her Sylvan career at the start of the school year, Taylor has become an exceptional part of our team. During center hours you will find her doing various tasks including tutoring, contacting teachers, answering the phones, and running clubs. She is wanting to learn more every day and is continuously developing more skills to help students succeed. At home, you will find Taylor spending time with her dog and her friends.
