Sylvan has an excellent reputation for teaching students of all ability levels from JK-Grade 12. This is your chance to join our team as a contract tutor. We need teachers for Kindergarten level and above in language arts but strength in Math or French is always a definite advantage. The ability to confidently and proficiently teach multiple subject areas is an advantage.

Sylvan Teacher - Essential Job Functions
• Deliver personalized instructional sessions to students at a maximum 3:1 ratio
• Greet students and initiate instruction to personally engage each student
• Instruct students according to the design of our Sylvan programs
• Manages students, tasks and time to create a balanced and robust instructional session
• Evaluate and record the progress of each student after each instructional session
• Use praise and encouragement to ensure students are engaged and inspired to learn
• Motivate students with Sylvan tokens given for specific achievements according to the Sylvan instructional management standards
• Record and track tokens earned by students
• Manage the conclusion of each instructional session and manage the completion of a learning log and transition activities; Supports procedures to ensure student safety and well-being
• Communicate specific student needs to Center staff
• Attend periodic staff meetings and complete ongoing training as needed
Language Arts and Study Skills Program Teachers:
• Four-year degree or equivalent required
• Provincial teaching credentials (OCT), or in the process of acquiring OCT
• Knowledge of phonics and reading comprehension preferred for reading teachers
• Proven ability to engage, motivate, and inspire students to learn
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and be flexible
• Strong problem solving and customer service skills
• Strong team player
• Relevant teaching experience
• Three recent references; at least 1 must be from a teaching position (experience as a Teacher Candidate accepted)
High School Math & Science Teachers:
• Four-year degree required in a math or science-focused discipline
• Provincial teaching credentials (OCT) preferred, or in the process of acquiring OCT
• Successful completion of a Math Proficiency test (taken at our Centre)
• Proven ability to engage, motivate, and inspire students to learn
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and be flexible
• Strong problem solving and customer service skills
• Strong team player
• Relevant teaching experience
• Three recent references; at least 1 must be from a teaching related position (experience as a Teacher Candidate accepted)
