Meet Our Team

As Centre Director, Marissa manages student programs, meets regularly with parents, and helps maintain the centre among other responsibilities at Sylvan of Richmond. She brings a wealth of experience in the field as she was Centre Director at another location and with that she is someone who has a passion for learning and teaching children, She chose a career in the tutoring business and is looking forward to giving back to the community. When Marissa isn’t at Sylvan you can find her walking her dog, out enjoying the sun with her friends or reading.

Hello,您好, nǐ hǎo: Kino is a friendly, soft-spoken person. He has a diversified background in education and is fluent in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin. Moreover, Kino has worked in public and private sectors, in various countries. His experience involves educating students ages between kindergarten up to university, encouraging students by mobilizing their abilities, and reinforcing positivity in learning. Besides, he completes a MEd in Curriculum and Pedagogy and MSc in Program and Project Management designing specific education programs for students. On his free time Kino loves to run.

A.J. has a B.Sc., in Pure Mathematics, from SFU. A.J.  teaches high school, 1st & 2nd-year University Mathematics, and high school Physics.
A.J. chose to work at Sylvan because they enjoy dealing with students one-on-one, figuring out where their thinking has gone wrong, and finding ways to correct them. It is also rewarding when students realize that math, at any level, is perhaps not as difficult as they thought it was.

こんにちは, nǐ hǎo, hello; Stephen is a trilingual tutor that speaks fluent English, Japanese and basic Mandarin. He has taught in the educational field as a tutor, instructor, and translator since 1998. Stephen has been a core English teacher at Sylvan Learning since 2015. Stephen possesses a Master’s Degree from St. Mark’s College and has a certificate in • TESOL • Basic Library Education His teaching methods involve explaining grammar and logic in writing, encouraging creativity and further reading, and discussing art, science, literature, and history as building blocks for learning and writing.

Nǐ hǎo, hello; Timothy L is a bilingual tutor that speaks fluent English and Mandarin. He has been teaching in the educational field as a BC teacher since 2009. Timothy has been a resourceful primary and upper-level English instructor since starting at Sylvan in 2008. He possesses a dual Bachelor’s Degree in English and Education and a certificate in  International Baccalaureate Programme Timothy has acquired training in several different pedagogical methods, allowing him to deliver the best practices. With his passion for teaching, he strives to create an engaging environment that fosters creativity, and critical thinking.

Nǐ hǎo, hello; Teresa is a bilingual tutor that speaks fluent English and Mandarin. She has been teaching in the educational field as a tutor and translator for over 20 years. Teresa joined Sylvan Learning in 2019 and has taken early literacy, international, and learning-impaired students under her supervision. Teresa possesses a degree in Business Administration, Management Studies, and Arts. She also holds certification in TESL, Adult Literacy, and Advanced Painting Her patience, attention to detail and wisdom are strengths that leave an everlasting impact on students struggling with reading, writing, and math.

Hello; Annabel is a bubbly and interactive tutor that has been teaching in the educational field since 2019. In early 2022, Annabel started teaching at Sylvan Learning, and immediately her friendliness, laughter, and positive energy brought smiles to all the students who worked with her. Annabel possesses a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and has extensive knowledge of math and its principles. Her personality and style of teaching have been effective with students that exemplify low levels of motivation, confidence, and interest. Her values and methods build a safe and non-judgmental environment that reinforces positive attitudes.
