John Monai
Centre Director
John has been Centre Director of the St. Albert Sylvan Centre for 17 years, and he has been with Sylvan in the Edmonton area for over 29 years. A former teacher in the public and private school systems in Alberta, John brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to his position. He loves the tutoring business because he gets to see the positive effects Sylvan has on students’ confidence and academic skills such as reading and math, as well as the joy that parents and grandparents experience when their child or grandchild becomes an independent learner.
Shannon Shirton
Tutor
Shannon has taught Sylvan reading, math, and writing programs and has tutored students in high school English and Social Studies. She graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Education degree and has worked in the public school system as a substitute teacher for a number of years. Shannon is patient and caring and loves to see students succeed in their academics.
Antel Javier
Tutor
Antel is finishing her education degree, and she has really enjoyed the practical experiences of teaching so far. Antel has many tutoring talents, and she finds her greatest joy helping students improve their academic skills. In her spare time, Antel loves to read, work out, and dabble in the arts.
Asmaa Mohammed Assaf
Tutor
Asmaa graduated from university with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. In addition to teaching the Sylvan programs, she provides tutoring to our high school students in the areas of math and the sciences. Having been a Sylvan student herself, Asmaa takes great pleasure in helping students with their academic needs. In her free time, Asmaa spends time painting.
Connor Biegler
Tutor
Connor has been teaching at Sylvan for over a year, and he has developed an excellent rapport with his students. When he is not at Sylvan, Connor works as a substitute teacher in the local school district. In his free time, Connor spends time playing his electric guitar.
