New President for Sylvan Learning Centres, GTA: Gregory Dixon
May 18, 2015
We hope you will join us in welcoming Gregory Dixon back to the Sylvan family. We are happy to have him back with us as the President of Sylvan Learning Centres, G.T.A.A Letter of Introduction from Greg:
Dear Sylvan Families,
It is with great delight that I have accepted the role of President of Sylvan Learning Centres for the Greater Toronto Area.
New beginnings are an exciting part of life, and I am looking forward to getting to know each and every one of you. The owners of Sylvan Learning Centres of the G.T.A. have a vision to provide exceptional tutoring and enrichment education for the children attending Sylvan Learning Centres. I am eagerly anticipating opportunities to build on the progress that has been made during the past thirty six years, and grow the company to meet the needs of each Centre’s surrounding community.
My background in education began as an Early Childhood-trained teacher. It is in that role that I formed a world-class, personal educational philosophy for children to: grow and develop their skills, aptitudes and confidence in a prepared environment; as well as become peaceful, responsible and problem-solving members of society. During the past three years as Head of School at the Montessori School of Louisville, I have put into practice all that I learned in the classroom to augment my leadership role as curriculum director and school principal.
I am able to acknowledge and respond to what teachers need and what children benefit from, as well as the nature of what parents expect of a visionary tutoring and enrichment centre. It is in this light, and with this skill base, that I will work with the Sylvan community as a whole to focus on the higher purpose of giving children the confidence, academic skills and learning strategies they need to succeed through personal tutoring.
My experience in educational leadership has aided me in introducing multiple individualized student plans. I strongly believe that Sylvan Learning Centres of the Greater Toronto Area employ passionate educators committed to meeting the learning styles of their students, foster outstanding teaching leadership through coaching and professional development, and engage with the local communities in which our Sylvan Centres are located. Our goal as a world-class Sylvan Learning Centres community is to personalize education, inspire a love of learning in each child, build confidence, foster independence and recognize that results matter; but through all things, whole-child education is paramount.
In the words of Dr. Maria Montessori: “Children are human beings to whom respect is due, superior to us by reason of their innocence and the greater possibilities of their future.” I anticipate great things as we work together in the Sylvan community and lead our children into the future through skilled guidance and a strong sense of accountability. We are all members of a global community and at Sylvan we will nurture the self-confidence of our students to explore and investigate the world at large as informed, problem-solving individuals.
My door will always be open.
Respectfully,
Gregory Dixon
President, Sylvan Learning Centres, G.T.A.
