    Patrick McNamara

    Executive Director

    Patrick oversees operations at the Sylvan Learning Centers of Albany and Clifton Park and acts as the Center Director in Albany. He knows the value of a high quality education and is committed to ensuring that each family has a positive experience at Sylvan. Prior to purchasing his Sylvan Learning Centers, Patrick was an attorney in private practice in New York City. He was raised in Clinton, New York and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Rochester and his law degree from Boston College Law School.
  • Carla Ronk, Director of Education

    Carla Ronk

    Director of Education

    Carla is responsible for overseeing each student’s academic progress at Sylvan. She earned a Bachelor’s in English and Master's in Secondary Education from SUNY Albany, and has been working for Sylvan since 2010. First as a teacher and now as Director of Education, Carla really enjoys working with the students and families to attain their individual goals. Our Sylvan students inspire her to continually find and refine new teaching techniques and content, plus, they often have great suggestions for new reads from the Best-Seller list.
  • Colleen Codden, Lead Teacher

    Colleen Codden

    Lead Teacher

    Colleen oversees the educational integrity of our programs, managing and training our team of tutors in Clifton Park. She previously worked in the Clifton Park Sylvan center as a teacher and Director of Education and has taught 4th, 5th and 6th grades at a private school. She holds a Master's Degree in Elementary Education from Sage Graduate School. Colleen enjoys working with students in Sylvan's individualized setting and being able to give them lots of attention!
  • Krista Zukowski, Lead Teacher

    Krista Zukowski

    Lead Teacher

    Krista started working at Sylvan during the summer of 2015. Krista holds her Master’s Degree in Childhood Education from the College of St. Rose and is certified in Childhood Education (grades 1-6), Special Education, and English Language Arts (grades 7-9). Currently, she teaches 2nd grade in Albany. Krista has really enjoyed getting to know the students at Sylvan. She loves being able to teach students in a variety of grades and see their success. In her spare time, Krista enjoys traveling, baking, and reading.
    Krista tutors students in reading, math, writing, study skills, SAT/ACT prep, GED prep and prep for state tests at the Albany Sylvan Learning Center.
  • Luda Borodulin, Teacher

    Luda Borodulin


    Luda has over 30 years of teaching experience in both the United States and Russia. After teaching years of math, English as a second language, and managing a high school, Luda joined Sylvan in 1999. While in her free time she may be curled up with a mystery novel or just enjoying the company of her family, she loves the opportunities to be helpful to students at Sylvan. Her favorite moments are when her high school math students and their parents start to see a very tangible payoff: their math grades rising.

  • Elise Charlebois, Teacher

    Elise Charlebois


    Elise has been with Sylvan since the fall of 2013. She is a State Certified Mathematics teacher and works for the Shenendehowa School District as a substitute teacher for Math, Science, French and English classes.  In her spare time, Elise works at Schenectady Civic Players running lights, house managing at Capital Repertory Theatre and singing with the Clifton Park Community Chorus.

  • Aaron Kanofsky, Teacher

    Aaron Kanofsky


    Aaron has been with Sylvan since March of 2016. He is certified to teach secondary social studies in New York State and graduated from the State University of New York at Oneonta, in 2015, with a Bachelor’s degree in Adolescent Education. Aaron graduated with his Master’s from Clarkson University and teaches secondary social studies at New Lebanon High School. Aaron loves working at Sylvan because it gives him the chance to help students reach their full potential. In his spare time, Aaron loves sports, specifically soccer, football, basketball, and traveling to new places.  Aaron tutors students at the Albany Sylvan Center in Reading, Writing, Math, Study Skill, and SAT/ACT prep.
  • Harriet McGowan, Teacher

    Harriet McGowan


    Harriet has been with Sylvan since 2002, and she has over 30 years of teaching experience. Her teaching certification is in Secondary Education – English and Social Studies. Since working at Sylvan, Harriet has taught many of our high school students, but she has also become one of our most requested Beginning Reading teachers. She enjoys having a chance to work with the young learners, and they love working with her as well!

  • John Waterfield, Teacher

    John Waterfield


    John has been with Sylvan since 2016, and has 4 years of teaching experience.  John was a History major in college, so he is particularly effective with social studies and history students, but ultimately he enjoys figuring out how each student learns best, so that he can adjust his teaching methods to match that student's learning style.   John received both his Bachelors and Masters degrees from SUNY Albany.  John teaches reading, writing, math, study skills, and SAT/ACT prep.
  • Rachel Crawford, Teacher

    Rachel Crawford


    Rachael joined the Sylvan team in 2017. She has ten years of teaching experience in various schools around the region. While her certifications include English and Theatre, she also enjoys assisting students in other subjects such as math and history. Her favorite thing about Sylvan is the opportunity to work closely with and make a difference for so many different types of students. In her free time, Rachael enjoys reading and writing her own mystery series. Rachael tutors students at both the Albany Sylvan Center and the Bethlehem YMCA satellite location in Reading, Writing, Math, Study Skills, and SAT/ACT Prep.
  • Mechele Meyers, Teacher

    Mechele Meyers


    Mechele recently joined Sylvan after retiring from a long career in education, largely in Maryland. Mechele is particularly happy to be teaching again, especially in a setting where she can provide personalized attention to students who she can see improve from week to week. Michele teaches Math, Reading, Writing and Study Skills in the Albany Center.

    Mike Inserra


    Mike has been with Sylvan since April of 2018. He has over 20 years of math teaching experience from high schools in New York City and programs in Upstate New York. Mike's teaching certification is in Secondary Math. Since working at Sylvan, he has enjoyed teaching both high school students and those in elementary grades. When not teaching, Mike enjoys bicycling and juggling. Mike tutors students at the Albany Sylvan Center and Bethlehem YMCA satellite locations in Reading, Math, Study Skills and College Prep.
  • Melissa Reynolds, Teacher

    Melissa Reynolds


    Melissa has been with Sylvan since 2018. She has over 5 years of teaching experience. Melissa's teaching certification is in Early Childhood Education. At Sylvan, Melissa particularly enjoys working with our younger learners. Melissa tutors students at the Albany Sylvan Center in Reading, Writing, Study Skills and Math.
