Our tutors and staff in Anchorage consist of passionate educators who love inspiring children to succeed. Warm, caring and great at relating to kids, our tutors in Anchorage know how to engage and motivate each child in a personal way—building confidence and smiles, as well as skills and better scores.   • Jennifer, Executive Director

    Jennifer

    Executive Director

    Jennifer has been a director with the Sylvan Learning Center since 2005. She has a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology from the Pennsylvania State University. After graduating college she attended the FlightSafety Academy in Vero Beach, Florida where she attained her commercial multi-engine instrument flight ratings. As a Certified Flight Instructor she trained pilots for the SwissAir Flight School and was a Check Airman, where she evaluated students on checkrides for issuance of flight licenses.

    Daneka

    Center Director

    Daneka is the Center Director at Sylvan Learning Center of Anchorage and has a Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology and Genetics from Purdue University. Her experience includes being a Special Education Resource teacher in Florida. She is currently working towards her Master’s degree in Special Education.
  • Ryan, Director of Rural Operations

    Ryan

    Director of Rural Operations

    As a Sylvan Director, Ryan leads the operations for Sylvan programs throughout rural Alaska. Ryan is not unfamiliar with rural villages in Alaska, as he formerly worked in government finance in places such as Bethel, Kotzebue, and Hooper Bay. While rural operations keeps him busy, he is also a part of the team in the Anchorage Center and Wasilla Center. In his free time, Ryan enjoys playing the saxophone and walking his dog, but nothing makes him happier than being a doting father to his two sweet girls!
  • Rebekah, Assistant Director

    Rebekah

    Assistant Director

    Rebekah is originally from Maryland. She moved to Anchorage in 2015 when her husband was transferred with the Army. Before moving, she attended Liberty University, majoring in Theater and is working toward a Bachelors. She previously worked at a camp in Goshen, Virginia as a Camp Counselor, Office Manager, and Marketing Coordinator.  Rebekah started as our main EDGE Instructor as well as the Office Manager and now is the Assistant Director. She loves working with students whenever she can! 
  • Anne, Instructor

    Anne

    Instructor

    Anne graduated from Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania with a B.S. in French. She received a Reading Specialist Certificate endorsement in K-12 from Pennsylvania State University. First she taught French and Reading for 7 ½ years in Pennsylvania, then 25 years for the Anchorage School District for Middle School French and Reading. She is currently a special education teacher’s aide for the Anchorage School District and has at been a tutor at Sylvan Learning Center of Anchorage since 2010 where she teaches several subjects including Math, Reading, Writing, Beginning Reading and Study Skills.

    Michael

    Instructor

    Michael has been a tutor at the Sylvan Learning Center in Anchorage since 2006  and he teaches Reading, Writing, Math, Study Skills, Test Prep, Science and more.. He tutors most subjects including sciences and high math. He obtained a dual Bachelor of Science in Education and Biology with a Minor in Chemistry from Michigan State University. Then he attended Central Michigan University for his Masters in Administration. After traveling for 3 years with the Ringling Brothers Circus with his act on stilts, he joined the Air Force where he dedicated 20 years of service.

    PaHoua

    Instructor

    PaHoua graduated from Beloit College in Wisconsin with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, then went on to earn a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin Madison. After her PhD she earned an Education Endorsement in Chemistry from Edgewood College. PaHoua started working for the Anchorage School District as a Chemistry teacher in 1999, she still works for ASD but now works in the ELL program at Bartlett High School. PaHoua has been a math and science tutor with Sylvan Learning Center of Anchorage since 1999.
  • Hope, Center Assistant Manager

    Hope

    Center Assistant Manager

    Hope graduated in 2018. She currently attends UAA. She enjoys spending her time volunteering with Girl Scouts and other organizations. Hope started as an Administrative Assistant at Sylvan of Anchorage in March 2017. 
  • Jesse, Tutor

    Jesse

    Tutor

    Jesse is a recent graduate from UAA with degrees in both math and computer science. His hobbies include spreading the gospel of mathematics to all those willing to listen, as well as playing mad riffs on the clarinet in his off hours.
