    Center Director

    As Director, Amy leads the Sylvan Learning of Bedford. Amy is a graduate of the University of North Texas and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. She is certified by the state of Texas in Special Education EC – 12, and has been with Sylvan since 2000. Amy is a proud mother to 3 amazing children. In her free time, you can find Amy cooking up new things in her kitchen, spending time with her children, or enjoying a movie with extra buttered popcorn. Amy enjoys working with different students and building confidence in them.
  • Erik Karlson, Teacher

    Erik Karlson


    Erik is a math and science tutor at Sylvan and loves teaching our SAT and ACT Prep programs—especially the math sections. He earned his Bachelor’s of Science in Physics from the University of North Texas with minors in Math and Chinese. He loves learning, and enjoys helping students overcome their own personal challenges to see the value in their own education. When not at Sylvan he enjoys hiking, traveling, working out and watching basketball (go Mavs!), and spending time with loved ones.

    Stacey McCommons


    Stacey is a teacher who enjoys helping students achieve their potential and grow in knowledge. She is a graduate of Texas Women’s University, and holds teaching certifications for Generalist 4-8 and ESL. She currently teaches 5th grade math and science. Stacey became a teacher because she wants to give students an opportunity to be successful, and to help close learning gaps. When she’s not at Sylvan, Stacey enjoys reading and watching movies.

    Susan Lavender


    Susan is a teacher at the Sylvan Learning Center of Bedford. Susan holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics with a Minor in English. She teaches HS Math, Algebra, Geometry, SAT and ACT. Susan has a wide variety of interests including reading, volleyball, and hot air ballooning. At Sylvan of Bedford, Susan enjoys helping her students meet their educational goals and goes beyond to make sure they leave with more confidence and knowledge.
  • Kaitlin Todaro, Teacher

    Kaitlin Todaro


    Kaitlin is a teacher with many talents. A graduate of Tarleton State University, she holds teaching certifications in Early Childhood-6 Generalist with ESL endorsement. She loves teaching early literacy, phonics and reading comprehension, but is also an expert on the reading and writing sections of the SAT and ACT. Kaitlin became a teacher because she loves to help students fall in love with learning. She loves the “a-ha!” moments when students are learning. When not at Sylvan, Kaitlin enjoys spending time with her husband and their cat, Nigel, baking, reading and traveling.

    Marianne Webb


    Marianne is a reading and writing teacher at Sylvan of Bedford with a gift for working with kids. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Mississippi College, and her Master's in Reading Education from the University of Central Florida. She is certified in Reading K-12 and Elementary K-6. Her favorite thing about teaching is impacting lives. She loves to see the lightbulb moment in her students. When not at Sylvan you'll find Ms. Marianne reading, cycling, running, and playing with her two puppies. 
  • Emilia Egel, Teacher

    Emilia Egel


    Emilia is a teacher at Sylvan of Bedford, and she loves learning. She studied at Texas Wesleyan University, where she earned her B.S. in History with Secondary Certification and minored in English. She is certified in History, Social Studies, and ESL. Emilia finds the greatest joy in teaching history, writing and reading, and loves to help students unlock their potential. In her free time, Emilia enjoys reading, cross-stitch, long walks, and playing softball.
