Audra-Marie Bohn

Center Director

After growing up in Bend, attending college on the East Coast and living abroad, Audra decided her true heart (and family) lives in the Northwest!  Audra is a licensed teacher with a second degree in Psychology.  In her free time, she loves being Auntie, enduring the Central Oregon gardening challenges, traveling with her husband, volunteering at the local high schools, and spending time outdoors with her friends and family.

James W.

Director of Secondary Education

James is our math and science guru! Students love working with him because of his patient and encouraging demeanor. James has a multi-faceted background in physics and philosophy  With future plans to be a professor, James is using his teaching skills to help our local students excel! In his free time, he is enjoying exploring all that Oregon has to offer; James comes to us from Illinois!

Beth Z.

Teacher, K-12

Beth has taught many grade levels from K-12 and a variety of subjects in our school system.  At Sylvan, she teaches math, reading, writing, study skills, homework support, and more!  Her specialty is reading: she has taught a reading intervention class for the past 9 years!  When she is not at Sylvan you will find her working hard with her yearbook students or on the basketball court!  When she is not working, she enjoys adventuring around Central Oregon with her husband and dogs!

Laura D.

Teacher, K-12

Laura has been teaching for over 30 years in both public and private schools. With specialties in Geography, English, and Social Studies, Laura finds it rewarding to make a difference in a child’s life through education. Laura loves to travel and experience different cultures. When not working, you will find her spending time outdoors gardening, hiking, camping, and playing with her dog! When the Central Oregon weather doesn’t suit, she may be sewing, reading, or crafting!

Eugenia R.

Teacher, K-6

Eugenia brings years of experience working in Bend LaPine public schools with students in need of academic intervention. With an organized, patient, and clear way of explaining difficult concepts to our elementary aged students Eugenia is an awesome addition to our Sylvan team!  When she’s not at work, Eugenia is busy investing in her own high school children’s success and their busy activities!

Cathy D.

Teacher, K-6

Cathy is a valuable teacher to our Sylvan Team! She teaches students K-6 in math, reading, and writing. She is supportive, patient, and helps keep learning FUN! In her free time, you might find Cathy enjoying all Bend has to offer, following her grown-up kids lives, or playing with her cute dogs!

Sydney Matthews

Executive Director of Education

Sydney always has a friendly smile when her students arrive! With a background in Engineering and a Master’s in Education Sydney oversees the educational integrity of our programs, managing and training our team of tutors in Bend. She also spearheads our STEM classes within the community and volunteers at Bend High School assisting with student college and career development. When not at work, you may find Sydney biking with her husband and playing with her dog as they explore Central Oregon!

Bill S.

Teacher, K-12, STEM

Bill actively teaches a variety of students at Sylvan including many of our STEAM courses! A former science/math teacher Bill brings a wealth of knowledge from both private and public school settings. He graduated from Seattle University and loves using his expertise to teach math and science. When Bill isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find him biking and hiking around the PNW.
