Our tutors and staff in Brookline consist of passionate educators who love inspiring children to succeed. Warm, caring and great at relating to kids, our tutors in Brookline know how to engage and motivate each child in a personal way—building confidence and smiles, as well as skills and better scores. We selectively choose tutors who know local curriculum and can link Sylvan lessons to what’s being taught in school. Get to know our tutors and staff in Brookline!

    Director of New Family Engagement

    As our Director of New Family Engagement, Erin welcomes new and returning families to Sylvan and leads all aspects of enrollment at Sylvan of Brookline, Weymouth, Portsmouth, and Salem.  Erin is a former teacher of History, Technology, and ELA. She has a passion for education and believes deeply in helping every Sylvan student reach their potential. She earned her BA from Hampshire College and MEd from Boston University. She loves the Seacoast and being so close to the beach. When Erin isn't at Sylvan, you'll find her visiting museums far and wide, cooking something exotic, spending time with her family, or heading to the mountains for some hiking!

    Executive Director

    As Executive Director, Krista leads all business operations for Sylvan of Portsmouth and Salem, NH and Weymouth and Brookline, MA, and ensures that the centers and their staff have the support and resources they need. A former Client Success Manager and Sylvan Center Director, Krista chose a career in the tutoring business because she believes that learning how to learn is the most important skill a person can obtain. She studied at Skidmore College and the University of California-Santa Barbara. When Krista isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her cooking, crafting, and spending time with her partner, Tristan, and basset hounds, Delilah and Tugboat, in the Lakes Region.

    As our Director of Family Commitment, Meghan works closely with our current families to ensure that their Sylvan programs align with their educational goals. Meghan meets with each of our Brookline, Weymouth, Portsmouth, and Salem families every month to communicate their children's progress at Sylvan. A former child care director, Meghan chose a career in the tutoring business because she wants to help children of all ages realize and achieve their full potential. She studied at Marietta College receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education and a self-designed major in Education Coordination. When Meghan isn't at Sylvan, you'll find her spending time with friends and family.
  • Sarah Bailey Gagnon, Director of Educational Development

    Sarah Bailey Gagnon

    Director of Educational Development

    As our Director of Educational Development, Sarah manages all aspects of center operations to ensure that Sylvan families make the most out of their Sylvan experience at the Brookline, Weymouth, Portsmouth, and Salem locations. A former third-grade teacher in Maine, Sarah chose a career at Sylvan because she loves the challenge of personalizing students' lessons to meet their needs. She graduated from the University of New England with degrees in Education and Psychology. When Sarah isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her enjoying time with her puggle, Khloe, and her husband, Martin, or traveling with any spare time she has!
  • Cortney Perez, Director of Student Advancement

    Cortney Perez

    Director of Student Advancement

    As our Director of Student Advancement, Cortney oversees the educational integrity of our programs, managing and training our team of tutors in Salem, NH. A former first-grade teacher in Lawrence, MA, Cortney brings a wealth of knowledge to Sylvan of Salem. She graduated from Plymouth State University. When Cortney isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her spending time with her husband and son.
  • Mary Cepeda, Director of Customer Service

    Mary Cepeda

    Director of Customer Service

    As the Director of Customer Service, Mary ensures that our families, students, and staff have a positive experience at Sylvan. Mary brings to Sylvan 24 years of experience in the education field. Prior to joining the centers, Mary served as the Chief Student Experience Officer for a small nonprofit college in Virginia and the Campus Director, Dean of Academic Affairs, and Director of Education at colleges in Virginia and Maryland. Presently, Mary also works with autistic children - "the most rewarding thing" she has ever done. Mary earned her B.S. and M.S. in Education from St. Bonaventure University and is working toward her Ph.D. in Education Leadership at Liberty University.

    Lead Instructor

    Heidi is a Lead Instructor in Portsmouth, NH with a gift for helping students succeed. While Heidi has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in teaching Reading, Math, and Test Prep. She completed her studies at the University of New Hampshire. When Heidi isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her walking her dog and enjoying time with her two adult sons.

    Lead Instructor

    Denyelle is a Lead Instructor in Portsmouth and Rochester, NH with a passion for sharing knowledge with students. While she has many tutoring talents, she most enjoys teaching upper-level Math. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Wildlife and Conservation Biology from the University of New Hampshire. When Denyelle isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her hiking in the White Mountains, volunteering at the Center for Wildlife, or snuggled up with a book and her cat.​

    Kelsey mentors our team of tutors and serves as a valuable resource to our directors in Brookline, MA. A former Kindergarten Teacher and 7th/8th grade Paraprofessional in Phoenix, Arizona and Boston, Kelsey brings a wealth of knowledge to Sylvan. She graduated from Northern Arizona University. When Kelsey isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find exploring state parks, taking day trips, and finding all the free seasonal activities that Massachusetts has to offer!

    Jenna Terio

    New Family Liaison & Lead Instructor

    Jenna is a New Family Liaison and Lead Instructor in Boston, MA with a gift for working with kids. She began her teaching journey as a City Year Americorp member, where she worked in a 4th grade sheltered English immersion classroom in Boston. While Jenna has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in teaching reading and beginner math. She studied at Tufts University. When Jenna isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her baking, reading, and spending time with friends.

    Heather is currently an Education Advisor at the College Planning Center of the Boston Public Library. Earning her Bachelor’s Degree in English from UMASS Amherst, and Master’s Degree in School Counseling from Bridgewater State, Heather has a passion for helping students. Heather has been with Sylvan of Brookline since fall 2016 and loves helping students gain the skills and confidence to reach their goals. When Heather isn’t at Sylvan, she enjoys reading, spin classes, yoga, and hiking with friends.

    Michele is a  high school administrator and college faculty member in Massachusetts with a gift for working with kids. While Michele has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in reading, language arts tutoring, and test preparation. She studied Psychology and Sociology at Providence College, Counseling at Northeastern University, and Higher Education Leadership at Capella University. When Michele isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her spending time in New Hampshire with her family and teaching skiing at Loon Mountain.

    Melissa is an elementary school teacher in southern New Hampshire with a passion for working with kids. While Melissa has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in tutoring math. She earned her Bachelor's in Psychology studied at the University of New Hampshire at Manchester and a Master's in Elementary Education at Rivier University. When Melissa isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her at the dance studio, at home reading, or playing video games.

    Elizabeth is a lead instructor in Weymouth, MA who loves working with kids. While Elizabeth has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in tutoring reading and writing. She studied History and Comparative Literature at the University of Guelph in Ontario. When Elizabeth isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her reading and cooking at home or finding excuses to travel to Europe.

    Marissa is a first-grade teacher in Jamaica Plain, MA with a gift for working with children. While Marissa has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in reading and writing tutoring. She graduated from Penn State with a Bachelor's in Early Childhood and Elementary Education and Boston University with her Master's in Reading Education. When Marissa isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her hiking with friends or spending time with family.

    MeiRose is a tutor in Boston, MA, with a gift for working with kids. While MeiRose has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in teaching mathematics courses. She earned her BS in mathematics from Stonehill College. When MeiRose isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her hiking, playing the violin, or spending time with friends.

    Chuck is a tutor in Easton, MA with a gift for working with kids. While Chuck has many tutoring talents, he finds the greatest joy in Math and Science tutoring. He received his Master's Degree at Penn State University and later worked at Southeastern Vocational Technical High School in Easton, MA. When Chuck isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find him enjoying semi-retired life.

    Bianca is a Title 1 Reading Teacher in Melrose, MA with a gift for working with kids. While Bianca has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in reading tutoring. She studied at Merrimack College. When Bianca isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her reading, listening to music, and spending time with friends and family.
  • Robert Stratton, INSTRUCTOR

    INSTRUCTOR

    Robert Stratton has been an Instructor in Salem, NH for more than eight years. Robert is an online education program content developer in Atkinson, NH.  He finds the greatest joy in teaching upper-level Math, including statistics and calculus. He studied at Western New England University where he received his BA in Mathematics. When Robert isn't at Sylvan, you'll find him bowling or playing handbells with church and community groups.

    Carrie McClain

    Director of Customer Success

    As Director of Customer Success, Carrie ensures alignment between the Sylvan educational experience and the family's academic goals. A former Special Education Educator and Administrator for over 19 years, Carrie chose a career at Sylvan because she believes all students are capable of achieving greatness when they possess the confidence that comes from experiencing success. She studied at Piedmont College receiving a Bachelor's in Business Administration and the University of Georgia receiving a Master's in Interrelated Special Education. When Carrie isn't at Sylvan, you'll find her enjoying her family, exercising, cooking, or snuggled up with a good book.
