Our tutors and staff in Brookline consist of passionate educators who love inspiring children to succeed. Warm, caring and great at relating to kids, our tutors in Brookline know how to engage and motivate each child in a personal way—building confidence and smiles, as well as skills and better scores.   • Krista Martin, Executive Director

    Krista Martin

    Executive Director

    As Executive Director, Krista leads all business operations for Sylvan of Portsmouth and Salem, NH and Weymouth and Brookline, MA, and ensures that the centers and their staff have the support and resources they need. A former Client Success Manager and Sylvan Center Director, Krista chose a career in the tutoring business because she believes that learning how to learn is the most important skill a person can obtain. She studied at Skidmore College and the University of California-Santa Barbara. When Krista isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her cooking, crafting, and spending time with her partner, Tristan, and basset hounds, Delilah and Tugboat, in the Lakes Region.

    Director of Family & School Involvement

    As our Director of Family & School Involvement, Meghan works closely with our families to ensure that their Sylvan programs align with their educational goals. Meghan meets with each of our Brookline, Weymouth, Portsmouth, and Salem families every month to communicate their children's progress at Sylvan. A former child care director, Meghan chose a career in the tutoring business because she wants to help children of all ages realize and achieve their full potential. She studied at Marietta College receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education and a self-designed major in Education Coordination. When Meghan isn't at Sylvan, you'll find her spending time with friends and family.
  • Sarah Bailey Gagnon, Director of Educational Development

    Sarah Bailey Gagnon

    As our Director of Educational Development, Sarah manages all aspects of center operations to ensure that Sylvan families make the most out of their Sylvan experience at the Brookline, Weymouth, Portsmouth, and Salem locations. A former third-grade teacher in Maine, Sarah chose a career at Sylvan because she loves the challenge of personalizing students' lessons to meet their needs. She graduated from the University of New England with degrees in Education and Psychology. When Sarah isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her enjoying time with her puggle, Khloe, and her husband, Martin, or traveling with any spare time she has!
  • Heidi Price, Lead Instructor

    Heidi Price

    Lead Instructor

    Heidi is a Lead Instructor virtually as well as in Portsmouth, NH with a gift for helping students succeed. While Heidi has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in teaching Reading, Math, and Test Prep. She completed her studies at the University of New Hampshire. When Heidi isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her walking her dog and enjoying time with her two adult sons.

    Kelsey mentors our team of tutors and serves as a valuable resource to our directors in Brookline, MA. A former Kindergarten Teacher and 7th/8th grade Paraprofessional in Phoenix, Arizona, and Boston, Kelsey brings a wealth of knowledge to Sylvan. She graduated from Northern Arizona University. When Kelsey isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find exploring state parks, taking day trips, and finding all the free seasonal activities that Massachusetts has to offer!
  • Jenna Terio, New Family Liaison & Lead Instructor

    Jenna Terio

    New Family Liaison & Lead Instructor

    Jenna is a New Family Liaison and Lead Instructor virtually as well as in Brookline, MA with a gift for working with kids. She began her teaching journey as a City Year Americorp member, where she worked in a 4th-grade sheltered English immersion classroom in Boston. While Jenna has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in teaching reading and beginner math. She studied at Tufts University. When Jenna isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her baking, reading, and spending time with friends.
  • Denyelle Kilgour, Lead Instructor

    Denyelle Kilgour

    Lead Instructor

    Denyelle is a Lead Instructor virtually with a passion for sharing knowledge with students. While she has many tutoring talents, she most enjoys teaching upper-level Math. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Wildlife and Conservation Biology from the University of New Hampshire. When Denyelle isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her hiking in the White Mountains, volunteering at the Center for Wildlife, or snuggled up with a book and her cat.​

    Lead Instructor

    Elizabeth is a lead instructor virtually and in Weymouth, MA who loves working with kids. While Elizabeth has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in tutoring reading and writing. She studied History and Comparative Literature at the University of Guelph in Ontario. When Elizabeth isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her reading and cooking at home or finding excuses to travel to Europe.

    Steve is a tutor in our Weymouth, MA center. Steve has been with Sylvan for over 10 years and currently works for the Dedham School District. He studied at the University of Massachusetts Boston where he received his Master’s degree in English. Steve’s favorite part about Sylvan is helping students learn.  When he isn't at Sylvan, you’ll find him reading, writing, walking, watching movies, or traveling.

    Instructor

    Chuck is a virtual instructor with a gift for working with kids. While Chuck has many tutoring talents, he finds the greatest joy in Math and Science tutoring. He received his Master's Degree at Penn State University and later worked at Southeastern Vocational Technical High School in Easton, MA. When Chuck isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find him enjoying semi-retired life.

    Instructor

    MeiRose is a virtual instructor with a gift for working with kids. While MeiRose has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in teaching mathematics courses. She earned her BS in mathematics from Stonehill College. When MeiRose isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her hiking, playing the violin, or spending time with friends.

    Instructor

    Robert Stratton has been an Instructor virtually and in Salem, NH for more than eight years. Robert is an online education program content developer in Atkinson, NH.  He finds the greatest joy in teaching upper-level Math, including statistics and calculus. He studied at Western New England University where he received his BA in Mathematics. When Robert isn't at Sylvan, you'll find him bowling or playing handbells with church and community groups.

    Center Admin

    Our Center Admin, Paula Martin, supports all of the directors with operational tasks and manages inbound communication to the centers. Paula also helps to oversee virtual instruction and showcase our Motivation Station for joining students. Paula brings to the team more than 10 years of customer service and sales experience. When Paula isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her tending to her at-home pond and garden, curling up with her cats, or catching up on the latest Netflix mystery series.
  • Yvette Adams, Director of Student & Staff Success

    Director of Student & Staff Success

    Our Director of Student & Staff Success, Yvette Adams, works closely with the team to ensure alignment between the Sylvan educational experience and the family's academic goals. She also supports our staff during instruction and through ongoing coaching. Yvette earned her Bachelor's in Science from Hampton University and her Master's degree from American Intercontinental University. A former career college campus president in New Jersey, and education director and instructor in Georgia, Yvette brings to Sylvan an abundance of knowledge and experience working with students and teachers. When Yvette isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her spending time with her sons and teaching wellness classes.

    As our Director of Student Advancement, Cortney oversees the educational integrity of our programs, managing and training our team of tutors in Salem, NH. A former first-grade teacher in Lawrence, MA, Cortney brings a wealth of knowledge to Sylvan of Salem. She graduated from Plymouth State University. When Cortney isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her spending time with her husband and son.
  • Katherine Stahl, Lead Instructor

    Katherine Stahl

    Lead Instructor

    Katherine is a Lead Instructor virtually as well as in Weymouth, MA, and loves working with students. She studied Elementary Education at Eastern Nazarene College where she also played soccer. Right now Katherine teaches special education (Grades 1-3) in West Bridgewater, MA, and is going to graduate with her Master's Degree in Reading from Bridgewater State University in May. 2022 When she is not teaching, Katherine loves reading, running, hiking, skiing, and spending time with her family. Katherine's favorite subject to teach is phonics and early literacy!

    Bobby is an after-school and weekend tutor in Brookline, Massachusetts with a gift for working with kids. While Bobby has many tutoring talents, he finds the greatest joy in math and writing tutoring. He studied Sociology and Criminal Justice at Indiana University Bloomington. When Bobby isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find him sewing, crocheting, or cooking.

    Ericka is an instructor with Sylvan who also teaches third grade on Cape Cod. She is passionate about supporting students with social-emotional growth and building their confidence. While Ericka has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in teaching mathematics and watching students reach their goals. She has a Master of Elementary Education from Lesley University. When Ericka isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her camping and exploring national parks with her husband, two sons, and an energetic dog named Beanz.

    Kate is a teacher in Methuen, MA, who loves working with students. While Kate has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in ELA tutoring. She got her BA at Salem State University and will receive her Master’s Degree in Education Studies from Rivier University in 2023. She has been a teacher for over 20 years. When Kate isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her reading a book at the beach, walking her dogs Mitch and Sammy, and finding new restaurants to try with her husband Scott.

    Joshua is a virtual instructor for the Portsmouth & Salem, NH as well as the Brookline & Weymouth, MA centers with a gift for working with kids. While Joshua has many tutoring talents, they find the greatest joy in tutoring students on writing. They studied at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. When Joshua isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find them drawing in their many sketchbooks.

    Vivian is an instructor for the Brookline, MA center and a virtual instructor for our Weymouth, Portsmouth, and Salem centers with a gift for working with kids. While Vivian has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in science tutoring. She studied General Biology and Education Studies at the University of California, San Diego. She also holds a master’s degree in Science Education from Seoul National University. When Vivian isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her cooking or doing yoga.
