    As Center Director, Jessica leads community outreach and operations for Sylvan of Burnsville. Jessica chose a career in the tutoring business because of the joy in seeing student's confidence grow and she has been with Sylvan for over 15 years! She studied at the University of St. Thomas. When Jessica isn't at Sylvan, you'll find her spending time with her two kids.

    Anya Sands

    Director of Education

    Anya Sands is the Director of Education in Burnsville. She is originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and moved to Minnesota to attend the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, go Gophers! Anya has graduated with a Bachelor's in Classics and a concentration in Political Science. When Anya is not at Sylvan, you’ll find her reading, biking, or cooking.

    Lead Instructor

    Luke is a Tutor in Burnsville, MN. A recent graduate from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, Luke brings a wealth of knowledge to Sylvan of Burnsville. He is currently enrolled in a master's program in education at Bethel University. When Luke isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find him cross-country skiing, barbecuing, or biking around the city.

    Tami is a lead instructor in Burnsville, MN with a gift for working with kids. While Tami has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in study skills and reading tutoring. She studied at the University of Minnesota. When Tami isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her reading books, cheering on the Gophers, and spending time with her family and friends.

She studied at St. Mary’s University and the University of Minnesota. When Julie is not at Sylvan, you’ll find her hanging out with her family.

    Harvey is a graduate of the University of Minnesota, where he obtained a degree in mathematics. He enjoys teaching a variety of subject areas including math and study skills. In his free time, Harvey likes to read books. His favorite book is Plato's "Republic."

    Brad recently graduated with a Master's from Notre Dame in Electrical Engineering. He obtained a Bachelor's degree from Gustavus Adolphus in Physics with a minor in Mathematics. Currently, Brad is working on becoming a full time math/physics teacher. Brad formerly worked as a teaching assistant helping undergraduate students. In his free time, he enjoys watching football, exercising and spending time with family & friends.

    Cory is a graduate of the University of Minnesota, Morris, where he obtained degrees in History, Spanish, and Latin American Area Studies. While also working at Sylvan Learning of Burnsville, Cory is a Grant Manager for the State of Minnesota in St. Paul, and manages grants that support youth ages 14-24 attain skills that will allow them to succeed in a post-secondary setting and eventually, full-time employment. Cory primarily teaches reading and writing skills at Sylvan. In his free time, Cory enjoys spending time with his husband Nathan, their two chinchillas (Domingo and Chico), and traveling.

    Carolyn is a graduate of Hamline University in St. Paul, where she obtained a master’s degree in education. Previous to Sylvan Learning of Burnsville, Carolyn was an elementary teacher in the Bloomington and Shakopee school districts. In addition to being a classroom teacher, Carolyn has experience as a math and reading intervention teacher as well as special education. She also has a background as a registered nurse. Carolyn Is new to Sylvan Learning of Burnsville. She enjoys teaching a variety of subject areas, including math and reading. She enjoys gardening, biking, hiking, and spending time at her family cabin in North Dakota.

    Nikki is a graduate of UW-LaCrosse, where she obtained a degree in Elementary Education and minor in Early Childhood. She also has a masters degree in Literacy from St. Mary’s University. In addition to working at Sylvan Learning of Burnsville, Nikki is a Kindergarten teacher at a charter school in Bloomington. Nikki has 5 years of experience working for Sylvan Learning Centers, and enjoys teaching a variety of subject areas, including reading and math concepts that she does not normally teach kindergarteners. In her free time, Nikki enjoys running, biking and reading.

    Nathan is a graduate of the University of Minnesota, Morris, as well as the College of St. Scholastica, where he obtained degrees in Spanish, Social Science, and Accounting. In addition to working at Sylvan Learning of Burnsville, Nathan works full-time as an accountant. Nathan enjoys teaching a variety of subject areas, especially reading and writing.

    Instructor

    Meade is a graduate of Saint Cloud State University where he obtained degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering. While also working at Sylvan Learning of Burnsville, Meade is a Graduate Research Assistant at North Dakota State University. He is focusing on using computers, mathematics, statistics, and experiments to help develop biodegradable plastic. Meade primarily teaches math and science skills ranging from elementary fundamentals to university-level coursework. In his free time, Meade enjoys playing hockey, video games, and hanging with family.

    Megan T. is an undergrad at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. In December, she will have obtained her Bachelor's degree in Special Education. She has already taken classes in Academic and Social Interventions, Classroom Management, and Issues in Urban Education. Nothing brings her greater joy than teaching students how to read. In her free time, Megan likes to read and play video games.

    Emmanuel has a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. He finds making a difference in the lives of the youth the most valuable aspect to his role with Sylvan Learning Centers. When he is not working with Sylvan, Emmanuel enjoys spending quality time with his family. 
  • Olivia Snyder, Area Director of Operations and Support

    Olivia Snyder

    Area Director of Operations and Support

    Olivia is our Assistant Area Director and Center Director in Edina. She works with our Twin Cities centers to maintain operational and academic excellence. Olivia has been with Sylvan for 4 years and holds a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Bethel University. Prior to working at Sylvan, Olivia taught 1st grade in Minneapolis. She is passionate about education and building confidence in all students. When Olivia is not at Sylvan she enjoys reading, watching soccer, and playing board games.
