    The summer leading into 2nd grade left Mom and Dad concerned about Ridge's skill and confidence levels. While they did not feel he far behind, they wanted Ridge to enter 2nd grade feeling well prepared for math.  Once we assessed Ridge's math skills, we found a few skill gaps in his math foundation.  As he progressed in his customized program, Ridge was able to work through his skill gaps and move quickly toward his goal and in the process he gained confidence in his math abilities. Ridge has started 2nd grade ahead of his peers in math.  Here is what his mom and dad had to say about their experience with Sylvan:"When we recognized that Ridge was beginning to struggle with math and saw how it was affecting his self-confidence, his mother and I knew we must take extra action to correct this.     Makayla came to Sylvan in the summer, looking to improve her reading and writing skills, while receiving extra support with her homework during school. When we reviewed her results from the Sylvan Skills Assessment, all of us sat down and were able to set goals, as well as pinpoint the skills needed to get Makayla where she wanted to be. At the time of her first progress assessment, Makalya had already improved three grade levels in reading, and there was no stopping her from there! She went on to her second progress assessment and made two more levels of growth! Makayla shared her Sylvan experience: "I love Sylvan because the people and the teachers that work here are very friendly.  They love to see the success of the students.  They are great teachers that give you one-on-one attention.  My vocabulary has improved since coming, and my grades have improved as well."
