Meet our Castro Valley Tutoring Staff

As Center Director of Castro Valley, Liset works very hard to make sure that each of her families are well taken care of and that the center runs smoothly. As a former Academics Manager, Liset chose a career in the tutoring field because she truly believes in the amazing improvement and progress Sylvan makes in every child! She studied at California State University, Northridge and San Diego State University. When Liset isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her creating music and/or spending time with her loved ones.

Michaela oversees the educational integrity of our programs, managing and training our team of tutors in Castro Valley. A former therapist and owner of a private tutoring business in Hayward, Michaela brings a wealth of knowledge to Sylvan of Castro Valley. She graduated with her Master’s in Educational Psychology from California State University, East Bay. When Michaela isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her with her daughter and in Disneyland!

Luann is a math, reading and writing instructor in our Castro Valley center. LuAnn has been tutoring at our center for twelve years! She is very caring and experienced. While Luann has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in our Beginning Reading tutoring program. She studied at California State Hayward. When Luann isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her knitting.

Nic is a reading, writing, study skills and test prep instructor in our Castro Valley center. Nic is extremely creative and dedicated. While Nic has many tutoring talents, he finds the greatest joy in our Academic Writing tutoring program. He studied at the University of California, Santa Cruz with a BA in American History and an MA in Education with Honors. When Nic isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find him reading books or binge watching Netflix.

Haley is an organized and enthusiastic Writing and Reading instructor. Haley is also a content writer at a marketing agency. She is passionate about sparking curiosity for writing in young minds; she loves seeing students have that aha moment when they realize they can use words to evoke strong emotions in their readers. She studied at the University of Puget Sound and Yonsei University. When Haley isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her studying foreign languages. She also enjoys gardening with her partner, taking long walks around Berkeley, and reading!

Jared is a Math, Homework Support, and Reading instructor. While Jared has many tutoring talents, he finds the greatest joy in math and science tutoring. He studied Civil Engineering at San Jose State University. Jared also teaches Engineering at Chabot College and is a Freelance Designer. When Jared isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find him painting murals and doing engineering projects with community college students.

Kendra is an admin in our Castro Valley Center. As our admin, she helps support teachers, students, and staff. One of Kendra’s favorite parts about working at Sylvan is working with the students and seeing them blossom over time. Kendra studied at California State University. When Kendra isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her exploring new hiking trails, playing tennis, or cooking new recipes.
