Meet our Centerville Tutoring Staff

Takela joined the Sylvan of Centerville in February of 2023, but prior to that, she was a tutor at Sylvan center in North Carolina for several years.  As a graduate of North Carolina Wesleyan University and then Capella University, Takela has degrees in psychology and marriage/family counseling. At Sylvan, Takela finds the greatest joy in connecting with families and empowering students to aim for greatness.  When Takela is not Sylvan, she enjoys reading, writing, exploring new areas and doing activities with her husband and family.

Robin has been a part of the Sylvan Centerville team for 26 years!  In her time at Sylvan, Robin has worked with a variety of students, which is her greatest joy!  She especially enjoys working with our youngest readers.  Prior to Sylvan, Robin completed her undergraduate work at Wright State University and her graduate work at the University of Dayton.  Robin holds Bachelor Degrees in Management Science as well as in Education.  Robin also holds a Masters Degree in Education (English).  When Robin is not at Sylvan, she is likely traveling, hiking, or writing. 

Kathy has been a tutor at Sylvan for almost 20 years. Even after she retired from the classroom, she could not retire from Sylvan! Kathy taught several grades in the classroom but teaching 1st grade was her favorite. Since joining the Sylvan team, Kathy continues her love of teaching. Her degree in education from Wright State University has prepared her well to help students meet their academic goals. In her free time, Kathy spends time with her daughters and grandsons. Kathy also has 2 fur babies, and they make sure they get to walk about 5 miles a day!

For the last 17 years, Tony has been providing tutoring to students of all ages. With a degree in Mathematics from Ohio State University, Tony can conquer any math problem brought to him and has gift explaining them in a variety of ways to a student. While at Sylvan, Tony has also learned other programs and can teach them when needed. He especially likes to help students improve their reading fluency! When Tony is not helping students at Sylvan, he enjoys being in his garden or coaching!

With a degree in Elementary Education from Ohio State University, Amy came to Sylvan with the love of teaching students to read! Amy joined the Sylvan team in February of 2023 and has been working with students to develop their reading skills. Even after only a few months, she finds this work to be rewarding and provides her great joy! Outside of Sylvan, Amy enjoys gardening and hiking!

Ted joined the Sylvan team in March of 2023. Ted has his bachelor’s degree in applied music from Marycrest College. Ted has also received his masters degree from Wright State University in Music, Educational Leadership, and Administration. Ted also did pre-doctorate work in Educational Administration. Ted sees the wonderful learning attitude of our Sylvan students and enjoys working in this environment. When Ted is not tutoring at Sylvan, he enjoys collecting baseball cards and memorabilia, playing professional music, and singing in local choirs.  

David joined the Sylvan of Centerville team in September of 2023.  Even though David has only been with the Centerville center for a short time, he comes to us with experience at another Sylvan!  David graduated from the University of Dayton with his degree in Education.  When at Sylvan, he enjoys interacting with the students, especially in the math program.  When David is not at Sylvan, you will find him kayaking, hiking and doing crossword puzzles.  

Marcie G. graduated from Miami University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education.  She joined the Sylvan team in 1996, first as an instructor. Marcie has held positions as a Director of Education, Center Director, and Executive Director. Marcie is very comfortable and knowledgeable about all of the Sylvan programs and over the years has seen the positive impact they have had on thousands of students!  In her free time, Marcie enjoys reading, shopping, and mostly, spending time with her family!
