Our tutors and staff in Chaska consist of passionate educators who love inspiring children to succeed. Warm, caring and great at relating to kids, our tutors in Chaska know how to engage and motivate each child in a personal way—building confidence and smiles, as well as skills and better scores.   • Carrie Catania, Center Director

    Center Director

    As Center Director, Carrie works with families and staff to create a successful learning environment for all students.  A former teacher with 20 years of experience in a variety of education settings with students PreK-College, including 16 years with Sylvan. Carrie chose a career in the tutoring business because she loves seeing students in a small learning environment where they feel safe to make mistakes and grow in confidence as well as knowledge and skills. She studied at North Central University where she earned a BA in Elementary Education. When Carrie isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her  running, weightlifting, reading nonfiction books and enjoying the great outdoors. 
  • Nina Northrup, Instructor

    Nina Northrup

    Instructor

    Nina has worked in education for more than 17 years. With her strong background in math, she especially enjoys working with students who are tackling new math concepts. Nina has a degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Connecticut and a Master's Degree in Education from the University of St. Thomas. When not teaching, Nina enjoys gardening, biking, reading and spending time with her family. One little known fact about her: she was born on an island...Long Island, New York!

    Randy is an ACT Prep, Homework Support and SylvanSync Math/Reading instructor in Chaska, MN. While Randy has many tutoring talents, He finds the greatest joy in Math tutoring and passing along much-needed mathematical skills to the next generation. He has a 40 year background in applied mathematics. When Randy isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find him writing a data science book and watching lots of baseball. 
  • Sara Lentz, Instructor

    Sara Lentz

    Sara was an Academic Coach and Tutor with Dream Big Center for Learning and Development in Georgia before recently returning to her home state of Minnesota. She graduated from Carleton College with B.A. in English and earned her M.Ed. in Early Childhood Education at Boston College. After teaching Kindergarten for a few years, Sara then stayed home to raise her sons. She has always enjoyed volunteering at their schools and being involved with their learning. When Sara became an “empty nester,” she decided to re-enter the field of teaching. She is passionate about the importance of education and enjoys helping students practice the skills and understand the concepts that they need to succeed in school. Sara’s other passions include reading, gardening, yoga, and relaxing with her sweet kitty, Cora.

    Desneige is a teacher in the Twin Cities, MN with a gift for working with kids. While Desneige has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in early literacy tutoring. She studied at Macalester College and the University of MN. When Desneige isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her camping, hiking, biking, gardening, or dancing

    Jessica is a tutor in Minnetonka, MN with a gift for working with kids. While Jessica has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in Reading tutoring. She studied at the University of MN and University of St. Thomas. When Jessica isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her walking her dog at lakes and parks, traveling, and enjoying going to plays and movies.
