Our tutors and staff in Skokie consist of passionate educators who love inspiring children to succeed. Warm, caring and great at relating to kids, our tutors in Skokie know how to engage and motivate each child in a personal way—building confidence and smiles, as well as skills and better scores.     Michelle Michonski

    Center Director

    Michelle oversees the educational integrity and business aspects of the center. She brings a wealth of knowledge to Sylvan of Skokie having begun with Sylvan as an instructor in Green Bay, WI and Northbrook, IL. She is even a Sylvan graduate; having completed the study skills program in high school! A graduate of St. Norbert College in De Pere, WI, she stayed in her college town to teach 6th grade before returning to her roots of Lincolnwood. When Michelle isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her in the kitchen cooking or baking or at the gym working off consumed calories!

    Jared is a teacher from Chicago with a gift for working with kids. While Jared has many tutoring talents, he finds the greatest joy in math tutoring. He studied at Southern Illinois University. When Jared is not at Sylvan, you can find him reading, watching movies, playing video games, and having fun with his two cats!

    Katie is a licensed teacher in Illinois, with a gift for working with kids. While Katie has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in reading tutoring, especially with Beginning Readers. She studied at Northern Illinois University and received a Masters from National-Louis University. When Katie isn't at Sylvan, you can find her hanging out with friends, watching movies, or reading books on her iPad.

    Michele is a math teacher at Proviso East High School in Maywood, with a gift for working with kids. While Michele has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in math tutoring. She studied at the University of Illinois at Chicago for her undergrad and is currently working on her masters at DePaul University. When Michele isn't at sylvan you will find her taking helping her students succeed in school and in her free time taking pure barre classes.

    Kelly is a special education in Chicago, IL with a gift for working with kids. While Kelly has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in early literacy/reading tutoring. She studied at St. Louis University. When Kelly isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her exercising, spending time with family and friends, and watching movies.

    Russ is a graduate student at Concordia University who is substitute teaching in Chicago and the suburbs while working on his Masters degree. While Russ has many tutoring talents, he finds the greatest joy in tutoring reading, writing, and social studies. He received his BS from Grand Valley State University. When Russ isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find him playing board games or going to plays and concerts.

    Lori is a teacher in Chicago, IL. with a gift for working with kids. While Lori has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in Reading/Writing tutoring. She studied at NEIU. When Lori isn't at Sylvan, you'll find her reading (of course), hanging out with her two kids and husband, and playing with her two Doberman Pinschers.

    Ana is a Title 1 Teacher in Chicago, IL. She loves tutoring in Math, but also enjoys tutoring in Reading as well. She studied at Spring Arbor University in Jackson, Michigan, majoring in Social Studies and Elementary Education. When she is not at Sylvan, her favorite thing to do is hang out with my dog, Raider. She also enjoys exploring Chicago, rooftops, coffee shops, farmer's markets, and working out.

    Kelly Collins is a Kindergarten Teacher in Plainfield, IL with a gift for working with kids. While Kelly has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in tutoring reading. Kelly studied at the University of St. Francis. When Kelly isn't at Sylvan, you'll find her reading, having dinner with her friends or family, or watching HGTV.

    Chaojie is a student at Northeastern Illinois University studying to becoming an elementary school teacher. As a future educator, he aspires to teach kids how to be curious about the world around them, foster critical thinking habits, and develop a genuine love for learning. While Chaojie has many tutoring talents, he finds the greatest joy in teaching math and reading. When he isn't at Sylvan, you'll find Chaojie playing board games, watching movies, eating ramen, and hiking in nature.

    Elana is a middle school science teacher in Chicago, IL with a gift for working with kids. While Elana has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in science, math and ACT tutoring. She studied at Hampshire College and UIC. When Elana isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her competing in triathlons, doing acroyoga, learning plumbing and playing with her dogs.

    STEM Teacher

    Gabe Schetter is a STEM Teacher in Skokie, IL with a gift for working with kids. While Gabe has many tutoring talents, he finds the greatest joy in teaching kids how to code. Gabe is currently a student at Niles North High School. When Gabe isn't at Sylvan, you'll find him playing one of several musical instruments, or playing tennis outside.
  • Renee Tzakis, Educational Assistant

    Renee Tzakis

    Educational Assistant

    Renée graduated cum laude from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio with a B.S. in Middle Childhood Education in 2002. She has endorsements in reading, language arts and social studies. After teaching primary and middle school aged children for three years, she realized her true passion was teaching younger students. Renee decided to go back to school for her Masters degree, she graduated with high honors from DePaul University in Chicago, IL in 2009 with a Masters in Early Childhood Education. Renee is the Director of Saints Peter and Paul Agape Orthodox Christian Preschool in Glenview and she brings a wealth of knowledge to Sylvan of Skokie. When Renee is not at Sylvan, she enjoys gardening, reading, family BBQ's, and movie club with her friends.
