    Fran Dyer, owner of Sylvan Learning Center, has loved working in the Centers for the past 25 years. It has been a fabulously rewarding career meeting with parents, classroom teachers, and or course, the students. While Fran's career in Public Education encompasses teaching students at the Junior High level, Sylvan has provided her the opportunity to work with students from Kindergarten through High School. Sylvan has an excellent program and provided success for students at every level. Fran has both a Bachelors of Arts and a Masters Degree.

    Franchise Owner

    Jim Dyer, owner of 9 Sylvan Learning Centers, spent 30 years in California Public Education. He taught high school for 8 years and was a Junior High Principal for 24 years. Jim has also taught Junior College classes in Speech and worked with Chapman University in the teacher credentialing department for the Inland Empire. In 2001 Jim began working extensively with the Sylvan Learning Centers. The best part of Sylvan for Jim is the same as it was working in Public Education....working with students and parents! Jim earned both his Bachelor of Arts and his Masters Degrees from Whittier College, Whittier, California.

    Executive Director - Franchise Owner

    Carli Ganet is the Executive Director and Co-Owner of the 11 Sylvan Learning Centers owned by Jim and Fran Dyer. Carli received her Bachelors of Arts and Teaching Credential at the University of Denver in Denver, Colorado. Carli began her career with Sylvan as a student in the Rancho Cucamonga Sylvan Learning Center. She has been a Director of Education, Center Director and currently oversees the educational programs of Sylvan students as well as working with Directors and Parents. She loves working with Sylvan families!
  • Kathleen Graulty, Center Director

    Center Director

    Kathleen Graulty has been with Sylvan for just over two decades ranging from a Sylvan Teacher, Lead Instructor, Enrollment Manager, and Center Director in the Diamond Bar, Etiwanda, Chino, and Claremont centers. She took a short break from Sylvan but remained in the field of education. With a Bachelor of Science in Business Management, Kathleen co-founded an education company working with international students. Since returning to Sylvan as the Center Director at the Claremont location, Kathleen has appreciated her time working with students, parents, and the community. She looks forward to continuing to build such close and important relationships!
  • Lisa White, Director of Business Development

    Lisa White

    Director of Business Development

    Lisa White has worked for Sylvan Learning for close to 10 years as Director of Business Development. Prior, Lisa spent 19 years in the non profit/social services arena managing programs and services for high risk, disabled, and culturally diverse populations. Lisa earned a Bachelors Degree in Psychology from Antioch University and a Master’s Degree in Psychology from Pacific Southern University. Lisa has always been actively involved in her children’s school; serving as an E3 Foundation Board Member, PTA Board Member, and School Site Council Member at the Etiwanda School District. Lisa enjoys representing Sylvan throughout the community and actively engaging in networking events and business development groups. She feels that her career experience and passion for education helps to ensure that all students are afforded educational opportunities that foster growth and development. “ I am passionate about academic excellence and enjoy working in a vibrant student learning environment where students are supported and celebrated.”

    Taryn is a graduate of California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.  She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Management and Human Resources.  As a former Center Director and Regional Director, Taryn comes to this position with a love for Sylvan Learning Centers.  
    Taryn is a mother to 4 handsome boys.  When not working you will find Taryn at the soccer fields or at the grocery store.

    Paul Park


    A graduate from Pomona College, Paul Park is eager to equip students with the abilities to succeed in the twenty-first century. Paul offers a unique combination of educational experience coupled with overseas living experience to meet the demanding need of students. Paul has spent the last 8+ years working with students from every age range including toddlers, preschoolers, elementary, middle and high school students. Paul loves the positive environment of the Claremont Sylvan Learning Center and the belief that every student that walks through Sylvan's door can achieve success and meet their full potential.

    Jenna Tonk


    Jenna is a graduate from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies. She also holds an Associate in Arts in Liberal Arts and Science with an emphasis in Humanities. Ever since she was little, she always dreamed of being a teacher and she is continuing to make that childhood dream come true. Jenna loves the tutor and student bond created at the Claremont Sylvan Learning Center and enjoys witnessing children realize their potential in education.  Her favorite subjects to tutor are reading and math.
  • Melissa Daugherty, Director Assistant

    Melissa Daugherty

    Director Assistant

    Melissa is a vital part of our Sylvan staff! She has a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies and a Multiple Subjects Credential. Melissa also has extensive experience working as a substitute teacher in both the Cucamonga and Upland School Districts. Melissa enjoys working at Sylvan because she gets to see the students' happiness when they understand a concept that has been challenging them.
  • Janet Ruiz, Tutor

    Janet Ruiz


    Janet earned her Bachelors Degree from California State University, Dominguez Hills.  After graduating she went on to teach Math and English to students with IEP's and soon became the On Site Program Coordinator.  Janet is currently the Lead Tutor at the Claremont Sylvan Learning Center and a substitute teacher for the Central School District.  As a substitute, she works with students in RSP and SDC and is completing her Special Education Credential Program at Cal State San Bernardino.  What Janet enjoys most about working with Sylvan is being able to guide students find the beauty in learning, students realize that we all have different learning styles, and that everyone can succeed if they are persistent.
  • Leslie Miller, Tutor

    Leslie Miller


    Leslie has worked with students at Sylvan Learning of Claremont for approximately two years. Prior to this, she taught in the Ontario-Montclair School District for 30 years. First and second-graders won her heart; children in grades 3-6 added to her resourcefulness and creativity as an instructor. Leslie also served as a Reading First Coach, providing teaching, assessment and program support to the teachers at Richard E. Haynes Elementary School, and received her Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from Chapman University. Leslie especially enjoys the one-on-one instructional time with children afforded her by tutoring at Sylvan. She truly loves fostering self-esteem, curiosity and independence in her student charges.

    Melissa Macias


    Melissa earned her Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Studies from Cal State University, Fullerton, and her Masters in Education from the University of Phoenix. Her last class ended just 20 days before her 1st daughter was born! For the next 10 years, Melissa taught grades 7-12 at a charter school and really cherished that experience. After that, she has been a substitute teacher with Upland and Central school districts. Since Melissa was a young child, teaching has always been her passion. She loves tutoring at Sylvan because she gets to work with students of all ages. When not tutoring at the Sylvan Learning Center in Claremont, you can find Melissa with her two teenage daughters!

    Abby Dahl


    Abby graduated from Northern Arizona University with a Bachelor of Science in Education, Secondary: Biology. She has experience working with students of all ages, virtually and in-person, as a multi-district substitute. At the Sylvan Learning in Claremont, Abby enjoys helping students achieve their goals and become confident, lifelong learners. Her favorite part of being a tutor at Sylvan is celebrating these successes with the students.

    Jennifer Flynn

    Director of Education

    Jennifer Flynn oversees the educational integrity of our programs as well as managing and training our team of tutors at the Claremont Sylvan Learning Center.  A former Graduate Associate Coordinator and Graduate Instructor at California State University, Sacramento, Jennifer brings a wealth of knowledge to Sylvan of Claremont. She graduated from California State University, San Bernardino and California State University, Sacramento with three Bachelor’s degrees in Linguistics, Literature, and Creative writing and a Master of Arts in Creative Writing. When Jennifer isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her reading a riveting fantasy novel, manga, or comic book, gardening, or, of course, writing. 
  • Sumaya Fakih, Tutor

    Sumaya Fakih


    Sumaya earned her Bachelor's Degree from the University of California, Riverside. She also holds an Associate of Arts Degree in Social and Behavioral Science. She has been working as an after-school tutor since she was a Freshman in College and has experience working with students of all ages and capabilities both in the classroom setting and as a personal in-home tutor and caregiver. What Sumaya enjoys the most about being a tutor, mentor, and positive role model to students at the Sylvan Learning Center in Claremont, is increasing their self-esteem and helping them realize their full potential. Her favorite subjects to teach at Sylvan are Math and Geography.
