Our tutors and staff in Columbia consist of passionate educators who love inspiring children to succeed. Warm, caring and great at relating to kids, our tutors in Columbia know how to engage and motivate each child in a personal way—building confidence and smiles, as well as skills and better scores. We selectively choose tutors who know local curriculum and can link Sylvan lessons to what’s being taught in school.

Melanie Bowers
Center Director
As Center Director, Melanie leads running the day-to-day operations for Sylvan of Columbia. A part-time psychological examiner for Columbia Public Schools, Melanie chose a career in the tutoring business because she enjoys helping children succeed. She studied at University of Central Missouri (Bachelor’s in Education), Lindenwood University (Master’s in Counseling/Psychological Examiner), University of Missouri (Educational Specialist in Educational Leadership), and currently attending William Woods (Doctorate in Educational Leadership). When Melanie isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her at her children’s sporting events, eating at local restaurants, or at Mizzou sporting events.
Cindy Lang
Director of Education
Cindy oversees the educational integrity of our programs, managing and training our team of tutors in Columbia. A former teacher, Cindy brings a wealth of knowledge to Sylvan of Columbia. She graduated from William Penn College (Bachelor’s in Education) and Webster university (Master’s in Education). When Cindy isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her spending time with her grandkids, reading books, and watching movies.
