Our tutors and staff in Crofton consist of passionate educators who love inspiring children to succeed. Warm, caring and great at relating to kids, our tutors in Crofton know how to engage and motivate each child in a personal way—building confidence and smiles, as well as skills and better scores.     As Center Director, Chris is responsible for all aspects of enrollment and overseeing the daily operations for Sylvan of Crofton.  She works closely with families and staff to implement each students personalized learning plan.  A former business owner and business manager, Chris brings 34 years of management experience with her.  She chose a career in the tutoring business because she considers education one of the greatest gifts a child can receive and saw a position at Sylvan as the opportunity to help make a difference.  When Chris isn't at Sylvan, you'll find her spending time with her family and grandkids, reading or enjoying time outside!
  • Katie Forero, Director of Education

    Director of Education

    Katie oversees the educational integrity of our programs, managing and training our team of tutors in Crofton.  A former English Teacher in Baltimore County, Katie brings a wealth of knowledge to Sylvan. She graduated from Bridgewater College in 2007 with a double major in English and Education. Katie began working at Sylvan in 2009 as a part-time tutor during the summer breaks from school. Her love of Sylvan expanded and she was promoted to a full-time employee in early 2012. When Katie isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her at a Ravens or Orioles game or digging in her garden. She also loves spending time with her two puppies, Sadie and Maggie.

    Sean is a tutor in our Crofton, MD center with a gift for working with kids. While Sean has many tutoring talents, he finds the greatest joy in reading and math tutoring. He studied at Pratt Institute. Sean's favorite pastimes are photography, music, sports, movies, eating out, and martial arts.

    Tutor

    Taylor is a full time teacher in Severn, MD with a gift for working with kids.  While Taylor has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in tutoring reading.  She studied at Salisbury University on the Eastern Shore.  When Taylor isn't at Sylvan, you'll find her teaching 3rd grade, cooking, singing and dancing, and doing arts and crafts.
  • Nancy Butowski, Tutor

    Nancy is a Fisheries Biologist with the MD Dept. of Natural Resources and has many years of experience teaching science and religious education.  Nancy enjoys working with students of all ages and likes teaching all subjects, especially middle level math.  She received her Undergraduate Degree from St. Louis University and her Master's Degree from the University of West Florida.  When Nancy isn't at Sylvan, you'll find her walking her dogs by the bay, doing Tai Chi, swimming , quilting or reading.

    Kathleen is a Financial Economist with the US Treasury and obtained several years of experience teaching economics at the University of Phoenix before joining Sylvan. While Kathleen tutors math, science and SAT Prep, she finds the greatest joy in tutoring math and helping students build their confidence. Kathleen studied at Smith College and holds Master's degrees in Economics, Finance and Accounting.  When she isn't at Sylvan, you'll find her reading books and gardening.

    Linda is a tutor at Crofton with a gift for working with numbers.  While Linda has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in Math Tutoring.  She studied at Mount Saint Mary's College.  When Linda isn't at Sylvan, you'll find her gardening, reading or knitting.

    Paul is a 9th Grade US History Teacher at Old Mill High School in the Anne Arundel County Public School System with a gift for working with children. While Paul has many tutoring talents, he finds the greatest joy in academic writing tutoring. He studied at the University of Delaware and is currently enrolled with Concordia University Irvine pursuing a masters in Athletic Leadership. When Paul isn't at Sylvan, you'll find him coaching the Boys JV Lacrosse team at OMHS and taking his dog, Lucy, to Quiet Waters State Park in Annapolis.

    Eileen is a retired teacher that has taught in 5 different states and Germany.  While Eileen has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in Reading, English, and Study Skills tutoring.  She studied at Michigan State University.  When Eileen isn't at Sylvan, you'll find her watching football, reading a good book, or going for a long walk.

    Milea Pickett is a teacher in the District of Columbia. While Milea has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in reading tutoring. She studied at Howard University and Catholic University of America. When Milea isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her involved as a member with Top Ladies Distinction, Inc. of Prince George County, singing, event planning, and enjoying time with family and friends.

    Karen is a teacher in Crofton, MD with a gift for working with kids. While Karen has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in elementary reading and math tutoring. She studied at Johns Hopkins University. When Karen isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her doing her favorite activities of cooking, reading and horseback riding.

    Adrina is a 1st grade teacher in Odenton, Maryland with a gift for working with kids. She finds her greatest joy in tutoring reading. She enjoys helping emergent readers make progress with their phonics and decoding skills. She earned her Elementary Education degree at Morgan State University and she is currently pursuing her Masters Degree in Reading Education at Towson University. When Adrina isn't at Sylvan, you'll find her trying new restaurants, watching movies and spending time with her family and friends.

    Stefanie is in a teaching role in Crofton, MD with a gift for working with kids. While, Stefanie has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in higher level math tutoring. She studied Secondary Education: Mathematics at Anne Arundel Community College and University of Maryland, College Park. When Stef is not at Sylvan, you can find her enjoying the outdoors with her husband and dog, Penny, either camping or hiking. Otherwise, she enjoys relaxing nights knitting or crocheting away on a project.

    Tutor

    Terry, a native of Baton Rouge Louisiana, has been teaching formally for 20 years. His teaching tract is in social studies where he has taught Local, State, and National Government, AP United States history, and Geography to students in Louisiana, Washington’s DC and and now in Prince George’s County, MD at the Academy of Health Sciences-a dual enrollment high school on the campus of Prince George’s Community College. Terry has a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Southern University and a Masters of Science in Education from Walden University.

    Sana has been a math teacher in various private schools in California and has a gift for working with kids. She has tutored elementary school to college students and finds the greatest joy in working with students in the higher level math. She has received her Mathematics Credential in Secondary Education and her Master of Arts in Education degree from California. Sana enjoys spending time with her husband and going hiking, doing fun activities, and enjoying the outdoors.
