Our tutors and staff in Deerfield and Highland Park consist of passionate educators who love inspiring children to succeed. Warm, caring and great at relating to kids, our tutors in Lake Forest know how to engage and motivate each child in a personal way—building confidence and smiles, as well as skills and better scores.   • Ken Repel, Teacher

    Ken Repel


    Ken is a mathematics teacher at Bannockburn with a gift of working with students and conveying information.  While Ken can tutor a vast array of subject matter, he finds upper level math to be most rewarding.  When he's not at Sylvan, you will find him playing strategy games.  
  • Veena Bhalala, Teacher

    Veena Bhalala


    Ms. Bhalala has a background in elementary education and developmental psychology. She loves English and History! Sylvan provides a wonderful opportunity for her to help others and she loves to see when things click and a person has that "aha moment." She believes that using your skills to help someone is a great thing. When she is not teaching she is out trying to capture moments with her camera, She also loves to scrapbook. 
  • Enaam Al-Quader, Teacher

    Enaam Al-Quader


    Enaam is a lifelong tutor. Starting from eighth grade, he has been tutoring for over 20 years, specializing in sciences and mathematics.  He has a bachelor's degree and is continuing his higher education, completing prerequisites for medical school.  When Enaam is not tutoring or studying, he can be found on a paintball field or go-kart track.

    Laura Rigwood


    Laura is a certified elementary and middle school teacher and has taught in several area schools. She also taught special education in Highwood, North Chicago, Waukegan and Mundelein before coming to Sylvan full-time. At Sylvan Laura tutors in our reading, math, writing, study skills and ACT/SAT programs, as well as provides homework support.

    Shashwat Gulati


    Shashwat is a graduate in Aeronautics who is continuing his higher education in Aerospace Engineering.  He likes sharing his knowledge with his students.  In his free time, Shashwat likes going to the gym and playing basketball.
  • Kathryn Boaz, Teacher

    Kathryn Boaz


    Kathryn loves teaching students how to read, or improve their reading fluency, and comprehension. She knows learning to read improves self-esteem and confidence in students. Her philosophy is that reading is a window to new worlds, new experiences, and provides the ability to explore exciting adventures. She especially enjoy working at Sylvan because the learning experience is more personal, and individualized which maximizes student growth in a shorter period of time. Kathryn is an avid reader, reading several books at one time. She also loves to be outside, usually walking in the local forest preserves, or along the lake.
