Our tutors and staff in Defiance & Wauseon consist of passionate educators who love inspiring children to succeed. Warm, caring and great at relating to kids, our tutors in Defiance know how to engage and motivate each child in a personal way—building confidence and smiles, as well as skills and better scores.     Center Director

    Jennay is a graduate of Colorado Technical University with her Bachelor’s in Business Administration and has a passion for working with children. She enjoys teaching the Junior Crusader classes on Wednesday nights at her church where she teaches the 2-12 year old class. Jennay is an Ohio native and grew up in Defiance for most of her life. When Jennay is not at Sylvan, you can find her doing fun activities with her husband and kids, at church, or polishing her musical talents.

    Director of Education

    Molly is a Early Childhood Graduate from the University of Cincinnati with a gift for working with kids. While Molly has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in Reading tutoring but wishes to share her love of learning with all students. When Molly isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her reading books, writing, and spending time with family and friends.
  • Jill Petee, Tutor

    Jill Petee


    Jill Petee is a Special Education teacher for Napoleon High School.  Jill especially loves teaching Math.  Her favorite subject is Algebra. Jill is a tutor at our Defiance and Bryan Centers.  Jill went to the University of Toledo for her undergraduate degree and Bowling Green State University for her Master's degree.  When Jill isn't at Sylvan, you'll find her with her two boxers, Blue and Arbor.  She also enjoys playing Texas Hold'em and will be playing in the women's WSOP in October.  
  • Mallery Sullivan, Tutor

    Mallery Sullivan


    Mallery has a special gift of working with kids. While Mallery has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in Early Childhood Education tutoring.  A native Defiance resident, Mallery teaches at our Defiance, Ohio location.   When Mallery isn't at Sylvan, you'll find her reading, singing, and watching movies.  She also enjoys the outdoors as well as walking and running.  Mallery likes working at Sylvan because of her teaching passion to make a positive impact and difference in the lives of all children.   
  • Diana Wehri, Tutor

    Diana Wehri


    Diana is a retired teacher with over 35 years of experience. While Diana has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in reading tutoring. She received her Undergraduate from Bluffton College and her Masters from Wright State University. When Diana isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her reading, quilting, volunteering at school, working on crafts or in her flower garden. Diana loves that Sylvan helps students find their greatest potential.

    Dylan King


    Dylan King was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada, and is a Math Major at Defiance College with a gift for working with kids. While Dylan has many tutoring talents, he finds the greatest joy in Math and ACT Prep tutoring. When Dylan isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find him playing baseball, cooking, or traveling.
  • Griffin Harder, Tutor

    Griffin Harder


    Griffin Harder is Fourth Grade Math teacher in Paulding, Ohio with a gift for working with kids. While Griffin has many tutoring talents, he finds the greatest joy in watching students achieve academic goals. He studied at Mount Vernon Nazarene University. When Griffin isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find watching the Ohio State Buckeyes, being with family, or playing sports.
  • Jayne Steffel, Tutor

    Jayne Steffel


    Jayne was a teacher for Children's House Montessori Schools in Bryan, Ohio with a gift for working with kids. She is a tutor for our Bryan and Defiance centers.   While Jayne has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in Reading and Social Science tutoring.  She studied at Adrian College.  When Jayne isn't at Sylvan, you'll find her visiting her great-granddaughter.   
  • Constance Letso, Tutor

    Constance Letso


    Constance is a teacher in Glandorf with a gift for working with kids with special needs.  She graduated Bowling Green with a bachelor's in Intervention Specialist and currently working on her master's in Autism. When Constance isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her reading or playing with her puppy in her new home.
  • Craig Beckett, Owner

    Craig Beckett


    Craig is a graduate of the University of Toledo with a BS in mechanical engineering and has an MBA from the University of Findlay. He joined Sylvan in April 2006, and prior to that worked as an engineer. Craig and his wife (Caren) are involved in the daily operations in the 7 Sylvan centers they own; Bowling Green, Defiance, Findlay, Lima, Toledo, Lewis Center, and New Albany.
  • Caren Beckett, Owner

    Caren Beckett


    Caren is a graduate of Bowling Green State University with her B.S. in Elementary Education. Caren has worked with Sylvan in many different capacities since 1996. Prior to opening the Bowling Green center in 2001, she worked in Columbus area centers as a teacher and Director.  Caren comments "Sylvan offers programs that help students feel successful again. The excitement shown by the students when they see their school grades improve is not only rewarding as a Director, but also as an educator."
