Our tutors and staff in El Cerrito consist of passionate educators who love inspiring children to succeed. Warm, caring and great at relating to kids, our tutors in El Cerrito know how to engage and motivate each child in a personal way—building confidence and smiles, as well as skills and better scores.     Anna Johnson

    Center Director

    As Center Director, Anna has the joy of meeting with families to help them formulate plans to acheive their goals at Sylvan. She believes that every child and every person is unique and valuable and loves having the opportunity to help people see and realize their full potential. Anna received her Bachelor of Music from Belmont University and her Master of Divinity from Southern Seminary. When she is not at Sylvan, Anna is probably adventuring somewhere in the East Bay or recording music at home. She loves running, writing, reading, music, and trying new things.
  • Kyle Kosup, Instructor

    Kyle Kosup

    Instructor

    Kyle Kosup is a veteran instructor at our El Cerrito center. He received his B.A. from UC Santa Cruz and earned his teaching credential from San Francisco State. Kyle has worked as a classroom teacher in the Albany School District, and as a science teacher in the San Francisco Unified School District. More recently, he has used his digital arts skills to help create educational media, including a plate tectonics video for The California Academy of Science, and interactive exhibits for the Maui Ocean Center and San Francisco Treasury Museum. The video exhibits that he helped produce can currently be viewed at the Bay Aquarium at Pier 39.

    Pat Ryle

    Instructor

    Pat is a seasoned multi-subject instructor. After graduating from New College of California, he got his teaching credential from S.F. State. Since then, Pat has taught for over 20 years, with the last 10 here at Sylvan in El Cerrito. He enjoys teaching math, reading, and writing to elementary and middle school students. In his spare time, Pat loves reading, watching the Manchester United Football Club, and spending time with his grandkids.
