Our tutors and staff in Fairfield consist of passionate educators who love inspiring children to succeed. Warm, caring and great at relating to kids, our tutors in Fairfield know how to engage and motivate each child in a personal way—building confidence and smiles, as well as skills and better scores.   • Lori, Center Director


    Center Director

    As Center Director, Lori leads the center for Sylvan Learning in Fairfield. She was raised in the Midwest before migrating to California. Lori has a B.S. in Business Management and a Juris Doctor Degree. Education is extremely important to Lori and she thrives when she is able to help students reach their academic potential. When Lori is not at Sylvan, she loves spending time with her husband, daughter, and two toy poodles...creating special memories! Lori also enjoys cooking, reading, volunteering in her community, and Disney vacations!
  • Melissa, Director of Education


    Director of Education

    As the Director of Education, Melissa L. Knox manages academic programs, provides support to Sylvan's families and to our team of instructors. Melissa graduated from the University California, Los Angeles with a B.A in English and received a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate from the University California, Davis in Gender and Global Issues. She has over ten years of experience working in Special Education and is passionate about students reaching their highest potential. When Melissa is not at the center, she enjoys taking creative writing courses, and spending time with her three dogs. 
  • Amytra, Instructor



    Amytra graduated from California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo, earning her Bachelor's of Science in Journalism degree with public relations concentration and technical writing certificate. Amytra works full time for a global supply chain company as a compliance specialist. She is also a teaching artist bringing Disney Musicals to elementary schools. Amytra studies method acting, singing, and screenwriting. She is currently recording her first full length CD of original music. As an instructor at Sylvan, Amytra intends to use her experience, skills, education and passion for the arts and learning to inspire students to feel safe, confident and eager to explore their potential.
  • Cristina, Instructor



    Cristina graduated from the University of California, San Diego with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. She continually takes child development classes to hone her knowledge in the growth and development of the “whole child” and how they learn. Creating a positive and supportive learning environment is her greatest passion. She currently teaches preschool with a rambunctious group of children. When not working she loves spending time with her husband and two kids, hiking and exploring new places.
  • Doug, Instructor



    Doug went to both San Francisco State  University and Sacramento State University.  He received a Bachelor of Arts and minored in Mathematics.
    His Hobbies include music, literature and art.  When not teaching he can be found visiting museums, he loves the zoo and attends lots of live performances.  Spending time with his family is also a top priority for Doug.
  • Jairon, Instructor



    Jairon attended Armijo in 2013  and was offered a football scholarship to attend South Dakota State University.  During college he majored in Exercise Science while interning with the school's athletic training staff.  He has worked as a substitute teacher  in the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District before teaching PE at Rodriguez High School for two years.  He is currently pursuing a Masters in Education.  In his free time he coaches football at Rodriguez High School.
  • Timiesha, INSTRUCTOR



    Timiesha is one of our math, reading and writing instructors. Timiesha has always had a passion for teaching and decided to follow that passion after years of being a home service provider. Besides teaching for Sylvan, Timiesha enjoys cooking, writing and raising her children.
  • Pablo, Instructor



    Pablo graduated in 2019 from UC Davis and is currently pursuing an M.S. in Finance from St. Mary’s College of California. He is passionate about teaching a wide array of subjects and helping students reach their full potential. Outside of teaching for Sylvan, Pablo enjoys reading, cycling and hiking.
  • Olivia, Instructor



    Olivia graduated from UC Davis in Spring 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior and a minor in Psychology. She previously volunteered as a tutor for a third-grade class where she realized that she loves teaching and working with kids, which motivated her to work at Sylvan before she starts Dental School in Fall 2021. In her free time, Olivia loves to do anything outdoors, play volleyball, do arts and crafts, and spend time with family and friends. At Sylvan, she hopes to inspire students and help create a positive learning environment for them.



    Asa works with Sylvan students in math, reading, and homework support in a variety of subjects. After growing up in Vallejo, CA, and graduating from Benicia High School, he currently is pursuing a degree in Chemical Engineering at UC Davis. As a teacher at Sylvan, Asa values helping students build a logical basis of understanding for their studies. His hobbies include listening to and playing jazz, rock and metal music, gaming, and backpacking.



    Rachelle is one of our elementary level reading teachers. She has a Bachelor's in Psychology from UC Davis and has worked with elementary students in various settings for the past nine years. She is a mother of two teenagers and spends her free time reading, enjoying her kitties, and spending time with friends. 



    Aaron is one of our Reading and Math instructors. After graduating from UC Santa Cruz with a degree in Business Management Economics, he discovered that he enjoys teaching students of all ages. Outside of teaching for Sylvan, Aaron enjoys playing video games, going for walks in the morning, and listening to rock music. 



    Keziah graduated from UC Irvine in 2020 with a B.S. in Biological Sciences and a minor in Asian American Studies. She is currently enrolled in a Pharmacy Technician program to fulfill her goal of entering the healthcare field. In her free time, she likes to spend time with family and friends, bake, journal, and try out new restaurants.
  • Chloe, Instructor



    Chloe has been fond of both art and science since she was a child. Eventually, she decided to pursue a Biological Sciences degree at UC Davis. Besides learning she loves to draw, paint, and experiment with different art forms. Chloe also enjoys watching cooking videos, taking care of her plants, and going on spontaneous road trips. 



    Abby is one of our reading and writing instructors. She recently moved here from Colorado and is currently pursuing a degree in Behavioral Sciences. In her free time, Abby loves to take her Labrador for walks, to visit Lake Tahoe, and to spend time with her husband.
