Our tutors and staff in Fairlawn consist of passionate educators who love inspiring children to succeed. Warm, caring and great at relating to kids, our tutors in Fairlawn know how to engage and motivate each child in a personal way—building confidence and smiles, as well as skills and better scores.     Center Director

    Megan graduated from Kent State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies, and has a Masters of Arts in Education. Megan’s drive and passion to see students grow academically and gain confidence is only matched with her willingness to work with each family to find a solution that meets their needs and goals. One of the most rewarding experiences for Megan as she works with students is seeing them experience success and discover how invigorating learning can be, then in turn watching them blossom into a confident, inspired students both in the classroom and in their communities.

    Director of Education

    Mike received his Bachelor's Degree in English from The University of Cincinnati and his Master's Degree in Teaching from Kent State University. Mike began tutoring at Sylvan in 2013, and continuously is engaging students with his enthusiasm. At Sylvan of Fairlawn he tutors in Reading, Math, and Study Skills. His favorite thing about working for Sylvan is the students enthusiasm and their excitement when they finally understand a concept they had been struggling with.

    Allison Bonvissuto


    Allison has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education from Walsh University, and is also a certified Early Childhood Intervention Specialist. She began tutoring at Sylvan in 2013, and continually strives to make learning enjoyable so that all students reach their potential. At Sylvan of Fairlawn she tutors in Reading and Math. Her favorite part about working for Sylvan is being able to work with a variety of students who all have different strengths and weaknesses, and watching them grow!

    Jay Bretzin


    Jay has a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education. At Sylvan of Fairlawn Jay facilitates testing and tutors students in math, reading and study skills. Jay is always spot on with helping communicate confidence and positive thoughts to our students. In his spare time Jay loves to spend time doing anything outdoors. His favorite part about working for Sylvan is getting to work with students of different age groups and different subject areas.

    Nick Martin


    Nick received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and is currently pursuing his Master's at Akron University in Instructional Technology. Nick serves as an expert instructor with his experience and passion for student success over the years both in the classroom and at Sylvan. At Sylvan of Fairlawn he tutors in ACT/SAT, Reading, Writing, Study Skills, Math, Algebra, Geometry, and Advanced Reading. His favorite thing about working for Sylvan is that students enter Sylvan as students, but emerge as leaders through hard work and motivating others to succeed.

    Ashley Meyer


    Ashley received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Ecology from The Ohio State University and her Masters Degree in Middle Childhood Education from Ursuline College with a concentration in math and science. She joined Sylvan in 2013. At Sylvan of Fairlawn she tutors in Reading, Math, and Study Skills. Her favorite thing about working for Sylvan is working with small groups of students and helping them strengthen their skills. Ashley consistently expresses her gratitude for being part of the children's success stories!

    Beth Wheeler


    Beth has earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Middle Level Education from The University of Akron. She joined the team at Sylvan of Fairlawn in June, 2015. Beth's favorite thing about teaching is helping a child succeed in an area where they were struggling. Sylvan gives her the chance to help students learn where they are comfortable so they leave always feeling successful. Beth also enjoys running, biking, cooking and reading.

    Matthew Carley


    Matthew has earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Studies and History and a Master of Arts degree in Education from Walsh University. He joined the team at Sylvan of Fairlawn in April, 2016, tutoring in Reading and Study Skills. Matthew really loves the idea that he is impacting the future through his teaching and also improving the lives of those he teaches. He believes that education is one of the greatest societal equalizers. Anything he can do to aid the educational process increases the ability of a child to truly excel in the world. Matthew loves reading, running, and watching/playing baseball.
