    Darcy Blanchard

    Director of Education

    Darcy oversees the educational integrity of our programs, managing and training our team of tutors in Goodyear and Surprise . A former middle school teacher in Phoenix , Darcy brings a wealth of knowledge to Sylvan of Goodyear and Surprise. She graduated from Western Governors University. When Darcy isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her swimming, gardening, crafting and scouting.

    Joe and Claudia Honsberger


    Joe and Claudia Honsberger are former New York school teachers. Together they have a combined experience of over 60 years teaching. Joe and Claudia moved to AZ in 1997 to open Sylvan Learning Center in Goodyear, AZ. They both have an incredible passion for children and education, with a goal that each child might have a spark ignited with a love for learning. When Joe and Claudia aren't at Sylvan you will find them singing in the choir, playing hand bells or just being grandparents.

    Patrick Centner

    Math Teacher - Surprise

    Patrick is a high school math teacher in Tolleson, AZ with a passion for working with kids. While Patrick has many tutoring talents, he finds the greatest joy in Algebra, Geometry, College Algebra, SAT/ACT Math Prep, and basic math tutoring. He graduated with a Masters Degree from Arizona State University as well as Northern Arizona University . When Patrick isn't at Sylvan of Surprise you’ll find him spending time with his family, hiking, or reading.

    Emily Prom


    Emily is a 6th grade teacher in Phoenix, AZ. She is very dedicated to education, having completed her undergraduate studies in Elementary Education at Illinois State University before obtaining a master's degree in Education with a Reading emphasis from Grand Canyon University. Also an avid football fan, Emily says, "I am a die-hard Green Bay Packers fan, even though I grew up in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago!"
  • McKinleigh Bernardi, Lead Teacher

    McKinleigh Bernardi

    Lead Teacher

    McKinleigh currently teaches Algebra 1 at a local high school. She graduated with dual degrees in education and psychology from Oregon State University. She has also taught fourth grade, subbed K-8 grade and been a paraprofessional in a variety of high school math classes. She strives to pass on her love of learning to each student she encounters.

    Monica Allsup


    I currently teach third grade, but will be moving to first grade for the 2020-2021 school year. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary and Special Education from Iowa State University and a Master of Social Work, with in emphasis in children and families, from University of Missouri-St. Louis. I moved to AZ in July of 2017 to teach and escape the cold weather!! I am an avid St. Louis Blues hockey fan! When I am not teaching, you can catch me outside enjoying the sun!!

    Math Teacher

    Clayton is a high school math teacher in Tolleson, Arizona. He enjoys teaching and tutoring Algebra, Geometry, ACT/SAT Prep, homework support, and math math tutoring. He graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelors in Mathematics Education. When Clayton isn’t at Sylvan, he enjoys at-home projects, cooking, and hanging out with his dog, Sedona.

    Megan Radenborn


    Megan is a middle school special education teacher in Buckeye, AZ. She has a very calming presence throughout learning with the students. She graduated with a bachelors in Elementary and Special Education. When Megan isn’t at Sylvan you will find her traveling and exploring all things including different restaurants. 
  • Kristin O'Leary , Teacher

    Kristin O'Leary


    Kristin has been in education for 14 years. She taught 7/8 grade math for almost 10 years and has a passion for helping students understand what they are learning. She has also been a Math Interventionist for students who were struggling in their grade level math classes. Currently she is an Instructional Coach, helping other teachers teach more effectively in their classrooms. Kristin grew up in North Carolina and went to college at UNC Greensboro, she moved to Avondale in 2008. She loves running and has completed many 1/2 marathons and Ragnar Relays (200 mile race).

    My name is Adina Myers. I have been a Sylvan teacher for 4 years. Currently I am an Exceptional Student Services teacher at Millennium High School where I have co-taught English, World History, and Geometry. I have two adult children Jesse and Channah, both graduates from Desert Edge High School and both attending Grand Canyon University. I love teaching at Sylvan - the students are amazing and always ready to learn. They make being a teacher worth it!

    Edith Lopez


    My name is Edith Lopez and I have been in the education field for 8 years. I have taught 4th grade, 6th grade and I will be transitioning to 7th grade in the fall. Education is my passion and I love helping students learn. I enjoy working at Sylvan because I work with dedicated students who are eager to learn and happy to grow as students. In my spare time, I like to read, travel and explore new places. I can't wait to meet new faces and I can guarantee you will love learning at Sylvan!

    Gabriella Ketcham


    Gabriella Ketcham is a veteran special education teacher with 25+ years of experience in the education system. She enjoys teaching all grade levels and especially those students with special needs. In her free time she enjoys traveling with her three teenaged children.
