Warm, caring and great at relating to kids, our tutors in Greenville know how to engage and motivate each child in a personal way—building confidence and smiles, as well as skills and better scores.   • Melissa Britner, Executive Director

    Executive Director

    Melissa is our Executive Director, overseeing the Greenville, New Bern, Wilmington, and Midlothian centers. She has been married to the same tech nerd for 25 years and has two kids in college, Tyler and Destiny. Her dog, Ginger, is her best friend, while mildly tolerating the family cat. She has fourteen years of educational experience, with some of them in administration. She is a licensed K-6 teacher with a K-12 reading license, K-12 curriculum & instruction license, and National Board Certification. Her Bachelor and Master degrees are both from ECU (Go Pirates!). 
  • Lauren Rattew, Senior Director

    Senior Director

    Lauren is our Senior Director, with experience teaching 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade. Family is important to her and she loves spending time with her husband, Aaron, and two boys, Avery James and Jackson, and of course her dog, Lolo! Lauren is K-6 licensed and certified, and graduated Cum Laude from ECU with her degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in English. She loves attending ECU football games, camping at the beach, and watching baseball (Gooooo Tigers!).

    Mrs. Lexi is our center assistant, as well as our lead tutor- managing out Tutoring and School Support programs. She is currently completing her Senior year at ECU, and will be graduating with a History Education degree. She plans to complete her Master's program through ECU while teaching high school students. She loves spending time outside, watching football, and playing with her dog, Piper.

    Mary Schultz

    Test Prep Coordinator

    Mary has a true gift for working with kids. Aside from working as a School Psychologist in Edgecombe County, she leads our SAT/ACT classes and workshops. She studied her undergrad at Penn State, and after 3 years of teaching Special Education, Mary returned to college to obtain her Masters in Psychology. When Mary isn’t at Sylvan, you'll find her teaching dance, traveling, or hanging out with her cat, Almond.
