    Director of Education

    Bev Harcum served as the Center Director and Director of Education in Richmond, VA for 15 years. An unexpected move to Greenville brought her to our location where she now serves as an Education Consultant and Director of Education. Bev spends much of her day at Sylvan consulting by phone with families throughout the Upstate regarding their tutoring needs. She welcomes questions and concerns from parents regarding their student's academic needs and achievement.

    Tanisha Smith

    Assistant Director of Education

    As Assistant Director of Education, Tanisha works in conjunction with the Center Director to manage growth opportunities and execute off site instruction and seminars for Sylvan of Greenville. A former teacher, Tanisha chose a career in the tutoring business because she wanted to be a part of helping students build skills needed to succeed in school. She studied at Valdosta State University. When Tanisha is not at Sylvan, you will find her reading or spending time with her family.

    Karen Weinberg


    Karen Weinberg holds South Carolina certifications in Early, Elementary, and Special Education. A graduate of Washington State University, Karen taught in Maine for several years before relocating with her family to South Carolina. Karen enjoys the beach and watching her sons play soccer.
  • Kathy Devon, Teacher

    Kathy Devon


    Kathy Devon completed a B.S. in elementary education from Central Michigan University and a Master's in Education from the University of North Texas. In addition to tutoring for Sylvan of Greenville, she currently serves as a student teacher supervisor for USC Upstate. She enjoys teaching middle school reading, writing, and study skills. She also enjoys Clemson football!
  • Dr. Jeff French, Teacher

    Dr. Jeff French


    Jeff French graduated from Furman University in 1995 and spent the next 12 years in a variety of college-level roles as a continuing student, graduate student, program coordinator, and instructor for the University of South Carolina (full time) and Midlands Technical College (part time). He was also a zookeeper at Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia, SC. With a focus on genetics and ecology, Dr. French finished his graduate work in biology and moved to a full-time teaching position at North Greenville University in 2007, now serving as Chair of Biology and Assistant Dean of Science and Math. His family lives in Greer, SC, and he tutors part time for Sylvan in SylvanPrep, Math and Algebra Edge, and upper-level math and science support.

    Will Woods


    Will Woods teaches STEM, Math Edge,  Reading and Math classes at Sylvan of Greenville. Will is a teacher at Laurens High School. A graduate of Mauldin High School and SWU, Will loves science and enjoys motivating students to share his passion.

    Will recently took his Laurens High Robotics Club to the World Competition.  Will knows STEM.
  • Michael Townes, Teacher

    Michael Townes


    Michael Townes, a tutor at Sylvan of Greenville, has a true gift for working with kids. While Michael's tutoring talents are many, his expertise is in ELA and Reading at all academic levels. Michael has his Masters in Education from Clemson and an MBA from USC but he began his academic journey focused in Journalism and Mass Communication at USC.  Michael's passion for educating kids begins with his own.  One notable fact about Michael -  He was a contestant on the show Jeopardy. 
  • Hannah Wiley, Teacher

    Hannah Wiley


    Hannah is a Sylvan tutor in Greenville, SC while finishing her studies in Mathematics Education at Bob Jones University. She has a gift for working with students of all ages and from many different backgrounds.  Hannah desires to help students grow to truly appreciate the different ways that math works! When Hannah isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her  enjoying music, reading, exercising and traveling.
  • Angela Brown, Teacher

    Angela Brown


    Angela Brown is an instructor in Greenville, SC with a gift for working with kids. The thing she loves most about working at Sylvan is the opportunity to impact a child's growth, and watching their faces light up when they move from confusion to clarity. Angela is a Certified Business Education teacher. She has two children and in her spare time she enjoys up-cycling furniture and home decor, and traveling the world.
  • Rashmi Kulasekera, Teacher

    Rashmi Kulasekera


    Rashmi Kulasekera completed his B.S. in Mechanical engineering from Clemson University and a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Tech, In addition to tutoring at Sylvan, he currently works at General Electric as an Engineering Technical Leader for Wind Turbine design. He enjoys working with students to help them find their passion for math and science! Outside of tutoring, Rashmi loves to read, binge watch TV, watch college football (Go Tigers!), and play board games with friends.
  • Linda Russ, Teacher

    Linda Russ


    Linda is a retired English and Social Studies teacher. She taught in Greenville County for close to 40  years. Linda has a BA from Furman University, and an MA from the University of Oklahoma. She has also taught art, vocabulary, Theory of Knowledge and Teacher Cadet classes. When not teaching at Sylvan or the OLLI Institute at Furman, Linda enjoys walking, travel, sewing, singing in the choir and reading.
  • Sara Beth Gilbert, Teacher

    Sara Beth Gilbert


    Sara Beth Gilbert is a teacher in Greenville, SC with a gift for working with kids. While Sara Beth has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in reading. She holds a Bachelors degree in Sociology from Lander University and a Master of Arts in Teaching with an Emphasis in Early Childhood Education from Converse College. When Sara Beth isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her teaching first grade at Bethel Elmentary School. She enjoys craft projects, reading, going to the beach, and watching baseball and football.  
  • Anna Davis, Teacher

    Anna Davis


    Anna is a tutor in Greenville, SC with a gift for working with kids. While Anna has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in Science and Math tutoring. She studied Biology at Coastal Carolina University. When Anna isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her spending time with family, doing arts and crafts, watching Netflix, or spending time with her many pets!
  • Bonnie Walker, Teacher

    Bonnie Walker


    Bonnie Walker is a retired teacher from Ohio, with a gift for working with kids. She planned programs for the Old Stone Schoolhouse Museum in Concord, Ohio while working at Riverside Local Schools. While Bonnie has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in teaching reading and writing. She has a BA in Communications from Lake Erie College and a post baccalaureate from Notre Dame of Ohio in Education. When she isn't at Sylvan, you'll find her canning fresh vegetables and making jam from her husband's garden.
