Mark B. Kance, Master of Arts in Teaching

Executive Director & Academic Coach

Director

Mark is a results-driven educator & director with more than 20 years of experience between classroom teaching and directing learning centers, helping students improve their academic skills, confidence & motivation in reading, writing, math, study skills, science, SAT & ACT Prep. He grew up in West Windsor / Plainsboro and graduated from TCNJ with a Master of Arts in Teaching and an undergraduate from Hofstra University.

Mark’s center helps students that are performing below grade level, on grade level and those who are advanced including gifted students. Mark meets with every family to understand the needs of their children, the team conducts assessments to determine areas of strangth and opportunities for improvement & utilizes all resources to ensure they receive the best personalized instruction with State Certified Teachers.

The Sylvan Learning of Hamilton also coaches students in Robbinsville , West Windsor , Lawrenceville , East Windsor & other towns in Mercer County, NJ

Amy Kance

The Sylvan Learning of Hamilton is a family affair! Amy joined her husband, Mark in 2012 as a Managing Director. She earned her Bachelor’s of Science degree where she graduated Magna Cumme Laude.

At Sylvan, Amy is a bit of a do-it-aller! She manages center operations,  conducts Sylvan Skills Assessments in Math, Reading, Writing, Study Skills, SAT /ACT / SSAT / PSAT. Amy also supports the teaching staff and handles scheduling.

Mr. Jose

Tutor: Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, SAT Math and ACT Math

Director

Jose received his Bachelors degree in Mathematics.
At the Sylvan Learning of Hamilton, Jose tutors students in Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, SAT Math, and ACT Math.
In his free time, Jose enjoys playing tabletop games with his friends.

MS. Rebecca

Teacher: Reading, Writing, Math, SAT Prep, ACT prep, Speed Reading

Ms. Rebecca graduated Magna Cum Laude with a major in Elementary Education, Special Education along with a minor in Math. For the past several years, Ms. Rebecca has worked as a high school math teacher. Prior, she also served as an all inclusive elementary school teacher where she supported students with ADHD, ODD, and Autism.  Ms. Rebecca is very kind, patient, and has an ultimate love of helping students reach their true potential. At the Sylvan Learning of Hamilton, Ms. Rebecca teaches reading, writing, math, SAT prep, ACT prep and helps students with homework support.

Ms. Rebecca

Teacher and Administrator: Phonics, Reading, Writing, SAT Prep, ACT Prep and Study Skills, Speed Reading

Rebecca holds a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Elementary Education with a dual minor in Childhood Studies and Digital Literacy & Multimedia Design, Standard K-6 NJ Teaching Certificate, and an NJ Teacher of Students with Disabilities endorsement from Rowan University.
Previously, Rebecca has taught self-contained grades K-5 as well as Basic Skills Instruction. Rebecca has experience working with children with Autism, Multiple Disabilities, and emotional and behavioral challenges.
Rebecca enjoys spending her free time with her husband and friends, going on walks, watching TV, listening to music, and going to seasonal festivals.

Ms. Teresa, M.S. Environmental Science

Tutor: Chemistry, Calclus, Algebra, Math

Teresa holds a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry and minor in Sustainability. Currently, Teresa is working towards her Master of Science in Environmental Science. Teresa loves talking about & teaching math & chemistry to high school & college students. At the Sylvan Learning of Hamilton Township, Teresa is a tutor of chemistry, organic chemistry, bio chemistry, physical chemistry, earth science, algebra, pre-calculus & calculus 1.

In her free time, Teresa enjoys swimming, spending time with her husband and relaxing at the beach.

Mr. Alex

Tutor: Math, SAT Prep, ACT Prep

Alex comes from a Computer Science and Math background and holds a Bachelors’s in Computer Science from Rutgers University.
Alex loves dealing with anything that involves numbers and coding. He enjoys teaching others and passing on knowledge and skills.
Alex loves spending time with his family, wife and the cutest dog in the world. Nothing is more relaxing than a movie night with snacks and good company.
Among his many hobbies, Alex likes playing the guitar, reading, exploring Blockchain-related technologies and crypto, playing poker, billiard and basketball.

Mr. Nick

Tutor: Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Precalculus, Calculus , SAT/ACT Prep

Mr. Nick comes to us with a background in mathematical sciences. He has worked as a college academic specialist and as a paraprofessional at a local school district.
At the Sylvan Learning of Hamilton, Mr. Nick teaches all levels of math including Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Precalculus and Calculus.

Mr. Ian

Teacher: Reading, Writing, SAT Prep, ACT Prep, Study Skills, Speed Reading

Ian holds a Master of Arts in Education degree along with Secondary School Counseling.
Ian also has experience working with students in the special education setting. He is currently teaching middle school Social Studies.
At the Sylvan Learning of Hamilton, Ian teaches reading, writing, SAT prep, ACT prep & study skills.

Nicole received her Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from Rutgers University and a Master’s in Reading and Language Arts. Nicole holds a teaching certification in Elementary Education as well as supervisory certifications.
At the Sylvan Learning Center of Hamilton, Nicole teaches Reading, Writing, Math, and Study Skills. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her daughter and their pets.

Ms. Carla

Teacher: Reading, Writing, Study Skills, Speed Reading

Ms. Carla holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology with an Elementary Education K-8 Certificate. Ms. Carla is excited to have the opportunity to work with students one on one and to help them achieve success. Ms. Carla previously taught 4th Grade and currently serves as a Teacher Liaison for teens enrolled in partial day mental health programs.
In her spare time, Ms. Carla enjoys spending time with her children, friends,  family, and going to the movies!

Mr. Tathagat

Tutor: K-8 math, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Precalculus, Calculus, SAT/ACT Prep

Mr. Thathagat possesses an undergraduate degree in Physics with a minor in Mathematics along with a Master of Science in Applied Statistics. He has also worked as a tutor prior to joining Sylvan!
At the Sylvan Learning of Hamilton, Mr. Tathagat teaches K-8 math, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Precalculs and Calculus.

Mr. Tony

Teacher: Reading, Writing, Study Skills,

Mr. Tony is a certified teacher that spent a large part of his career in public service. In addition to this service, he also became a writer but really enjoys working with students to help them improve their reading, writing & study skills.
At Sylvan, Mr. Tony teaches reading, writing, study skills & SAT/ACT prep.

Ms. Karen

Tutor: K-8 math, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, SAT Prep Math and ACT Prep Math

Ms. Karen holds a Master’s Degree in education along with a Bachelors Degree in Management Science. For many years, Ms. Karen has helped students to improve their skills, confidence and motivation by working with students on an individualized basis.
At the Sylvan Learning of Hamilton, Ms. Karen works with students in K-8  math along with Algebra 1 & Algebra 2!

Ms. Stephanie holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and Psychology with a minor in Special Education. She graduated with her Master’s in Special Education with a concentration in Autism Spectrum Disorders.
Ms. Stephanie has taught for nine years in many different special education classrooms, but is currently teaching in the elementary setting.
In her free time, Ms. Stephanie enjoys reading. At the Sylvan Learning Center of Hamilton, Stephanie will be teaching reading, writing and math.

Ms. Gabrielle holds an undergraduate degree in Elementary / Special Education & English. She also holds her teaching certificate in elementary along with middle school level with Advanced Standing and currently teaches middle school Language Arts.
At the Sylvan Learning of Hamilton, Ms. Gabby teaches phonics, reading, writing, & study skills. She also supports the center with administrative functions!

Ms. Beverly holds her teacher preparation/certification in both Elementary and Secondary English Education and is certified to teach K-12 English.
Currently, Ms. Beverly teaches middle school language arts! She also has experience working with gifted students.

At the Sylvan Learning of Hamilton, Ms. Beverly teaches reading, writing & study skills!

Ms. Liz

Teacher: Reading, Writing, SAT Prep, ACT Prep, Study Skills

Ms. Liz joined the Sylvan Learning Center with a skillset in all subjects verbal and a strength in connecting with her students!
While Ms. Liz studied psychology in college, she also attended a teaching academy with a focus on early childhood. Ms. Liz has a great deal of patience with the ability to meet students ‘where they are’. She has a wonderful ability to understand how her students process information so that she can better help them to build their skills, confidence and motivation!

Mr. Matthew holds a Ph.D. in Engineering and currently working as a researcher in the Princeton area. Mr. Matthew has previous experience teaching/tutoring and misses working closely with students on an individualized basis. He brings his unique experience as a practitioner of math and science, with a passion for sharing his knowledge.

At the Sylvan Learning of Hamilton, Mr. Matthew will be teaching a wide range of math skills to students that includes Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Precalclus, Calculus SAT Prep Math, ACT Prep Math, Chemistry & Physics

Ms. Janelle

Teacher: Reading, Writing, Study Skills, SAT Verbal & ACT Verbal

Ms. Janelle received her Bachelor of Arts degree in both Secondary Education and English. She has taught 3rd-8th grade English, as well as High School Literature. At the Sylvan Learning Center of Hamilton, Janelle works with students teaching reading, writing, study skills, SAT prep, ACT prep

Janelle enjoys spending her free time reading a good book and spending time by the ocean.
