Our tutors and staff in Lansing/East Lansing consist of passionate educators who love inspiring children to succeed. Warm, caring and great at relating to kids, our tutors in Lansing know how to engage and motivate each child in a personal way—building confidence and smiles, as well as skills and better scores. We selectively choose tutors who know local curriculum and can link Sylvan lessons to what’s being taught in school. Get to know our tutors and staff in Lansing/East Lansing!

    After working in the Sylvan family for 15 years, Jessica and her husband George had the pleasure of becoming owners in March of 2017. Jessica's favorite aspect of Sylvan is the ability to partner with community organizations and schools. She earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in Education from CMU and a Master's in Educational Psychology from EMU.  Jessica also serves as the chair for the Dewitt Public Schools Foundation, where her children attend school. When she isn't at Sylvan, Jessica enjoys vegetable gardening and camping.
  • Jennie Mill, Director of Operations

    Director of Operations

    Jennie oversees the educational success and integrity of our programs. Jennie's favorite parts of working with Sylvan are guiding families through the steps of the learning process and partnering with area schools.  Jennie graduated from Hope College with a degree in English/Elementary Education. When Jennie is not at Sylvan she loves to hike the trails at the Ledges in Grand Ledge or sneak in a yoga class.
  • Cheryl Weiss, Center Director

    Cheryl Weiss

    Center Director

    Cheryl oversees operation and instruction in our Lansing Center. Cheryl holds a B.A. and an M.A. in History from Michigan State University. She was also a classroom teacher for 20 years, teaching history, social studies, and Spanish. Her favorite thing about Sylvan is seeing students grow in confidence in their own abilities to take on new challenges. When she is not at Sylvan, Cheryl enjoys reading, crafting, playing with her dog, and watching her nephews compete in baseball, football, and gymnastics. She also looks forward to annual trips to Uncle Johns Cider Mill and the St Johns Mint Festival.

    Mindi Woronoff, M. Ed

    Director of Education

    Mindi oversees the educational integrity of our programs at Sylvan of Lansing-East.  A former student supervisor for Okemos Public Schools, Mindi helps students focus on the academic as well as the intangible aspects of school life. She graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in technical writing. When Mindi isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her reading and baking goodies for her kids.
