Our tutors and staff in Lewis Center consist of passionate educators who love inspiring children to succeed. Warm, caring and great at relating to kids, our tutors in Lewis Center know how to engage and motivate each child in a personal way—building confidence and smiles, as well as skills and better scores.     Center Director

    As Center Director, Kyla leads public relations and marketing for Sylvan of Lewis Center & Dublin, OH.  Kyla chose a career with Sylvan because she loves helping students succeed and has helped change many students' lives in her years as a teacher with Sylvan. Kyla studied Political Science and German at Wittenberg University. When Kyla isn't at Sylvan, you'll find her trying out new recipes and reading.
  • Dezirae Roberts, Director of Education

    Dezirae Roberts

    Director of Education

    Dezirae oversees the educational integrity of our programs, managing and training our team of tutors in Lewis Center and Dublin. A former elementary school teacher in Okemos, Michigan, Dezirae brings a wealth of knowledge to Sylvan of Lewis Center. She graduated from Michigan State University. When Dezirae isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her spending time with family and traveling.
  • Mel Beck, Teacher

    Mel Beck


    Mel is retired software engineer and former computer/communications specialist in the Air National Guard. While Mel has many tutoring talents, he finds the greatest joy in math tutoring. He earned an Associate of Science degree in Electronic Engineering Technology from Columbus Technical Institute and a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Ohio State University. At Sylvan, Mel works with students in math, ACT/SAT Prep., and STEM programs.

    Wendy Ferkany


    Wendy is a teacher in Lewis Center, OH, with a gift for working with kids. While Wendy has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in working with students in the area of reading. She studied at Ohio State University where she received her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. She also went on to receive her Master's degree in Child Development at Walden University. When Wendy isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her spending time with her family and reading historical fiction books.
  • Beth Kimbleton, Teacher

    Beth Kimbleton


    Beth is a  teacher in Lewis Center, OH with a gift for working with kids. While Beth has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in math tutoring. Beth has been teaching 6th-grade math and science for 18 years. She obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Middle Childhood Education with a math and science emphasis, at Wittenberg University. She went on to obtain a Master's degree in Education at Ohio Dominican University. When Beth isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her spending time with her family and pets, attending her children's sporting events, reading books, or playing billiards.
  • Stephanie Waldron, Teacher

    Stephanie Waldron


    Stephanie is a teacher in Lewis Center and Dublin, Ohio, with a passion for teaching math. She recently moved from South Dakota to Ohio. During her time in South Dakota, she taught 8th-12th grade math students. She studied at Chadron State College where she received her Bachelors in Secondary Education with a field endorsement in Mathematics. When Stephanie isn't at Sylvan, you'll find her spending time with her husband and daughter. 
  • Caren Beckett, Owner

    Caren Beckett


    Caren is a graduate of Bowling Green State University with her B.S. in Elementary Education. Caren has worked with Sylvan in many different capacities since 1996. Prior to opening the Bowling Green Center in 2001, she worked in Columbus area centers as a teacher and Director. Caren comments "Sylvan offers programs that help students feel successful again. The excitement shown by students when they see their school grades improve is not only rewarding as a Director, but also as an educator."
  • Craig Beckett, Owner

    Craig Beckett


    Craig is a graduate of the University of Toledo with a BS in mechanical engineering and has an MBA from the University of Findlay. He joined Sylvan in April 2006, and prior to that worked as an engineer. Craig and his wife (Caren) are involved in the daily operations in the 7 Sylvan centers they own; Bowling Green, Defiance, Findlay, Lima, Toledo, Lewis Center, and New Albany.
