Our tutors and staff in Lima and Wapakoneta consist of passionate educators who love inspiring children to succeed. Warm, caring and great at relating to kids, our tutors in Lima know how to engage and motivate each child in a personal way—building confidence and smiles, as well as skills and better scores.     Center Director

     As Center Director, Shay strives to increase community awareness of our outstanding and personalized tutoring program here at Sylvan of Lima, Wapakoneta, and Delphos.  With a background in marketing and graphic design, Shay handles public relations and marketing here at Sylvan. Shay has joined the Sylvan team eager to make a difference in the lives of Sylvan students and expand Sylvan partnerships within the Lima community and surrounding areas.  She studied at Franklin University where she earned her Bachelor's degree in Marketing and Interactive Media Design.  When Shay isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her spending time with her family, friends, and dogs.

    Director of Education

    Ashley oversees the educational integrity of our programs, managing and training our team of tutors in Lima. A former Teacher in Lima, Ashley brings a wealth of knowledge to Sylvan. She graduated from the University of Toledo. When Ashley isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find Her spending time with her family, watching movies, or playing with her dogs.  Ashley likes working at Sylvan because it is an upbeat and fun place with great people, teachers and students!
  • Kay Monus, Tutor

    Kay Monus


    Kay is is currently an intervention specialist at ACESC. She has a range of experience in education. She has taught various capacities in elementary and middle schools in several states including Ohio, Maryland, Alaska, and Texas. She studied at The Ohio State University where she earned both a BS in elementary education and MS in Education Theory and Practice. Additionally, she earned certification as an intervention specialist from the University of AK, SE. When Kay isn't at Sylvan you'll find her spending time with her 3 (grown) children.
  • Suzanne Hardesty, Tutor

    Suzanne Hardesty


    Suzanne is a teacher in Lima, Ohio with a gift for working with kids. While Suzanne has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in teaching grades kindergarten through 8th grade. Suzanne studied at Kent State where she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in math, a minor in physics and an endorsement for Gifted Intervention. Suzanne also has a Master of Arts Degree in Education Administration with a Principal's license. When Suzanne isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her reading fiction, traveling, watching hallmark or Inspecting race cars with the SCCA.

    Mike Leidy


    Mike is a retired high school math teacher from Bath Local Schools in Lima , OH with a gift for working with kids and helping them find confidence in math. While Mike has many tutoring talents, he finds the greatest joy in tutoring advanced math and ACT prep. He studied at Urbana University where he received his undergraduate degree and then the University of Dayton for a Masters in Administration . When Mike isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find him spending time with his family and woodworking .

    Stephanie Johnson


    Stephanie has come to us from Florida and we are thrilled to have her as part of our team! Stephanie has taught children of all ages specifically kindergarten through ninth grades. Stephanie has received her Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education and Exceptional Student Education from Flagler College. While Stephanie has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in tutoring and helping children through new skills. When Stephanie isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her  spending time with her family & reading.
  • Audrey Stechschulte, Tutor

    Audrey Stechschulte


    Audrey is a  teacher in  Van Wert, Ohio. with a gift for working with kids of all ages. While Audrey has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in Math tutoring. She studied at Taylor University earning her Bachelors in Math Education. When Audrey isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her  spending time with her husband, her 2 cats, reading, cooking & gardening.
  • Cheyann Schadewald, Tutor

    Cheyann Schadewald


    Cheyann is a substitute teacher in Lima, Oh. While Cheyann has many  talents, she finds the greatest joy in tutoring. Cheyann has earned her Bachelors degree of Arts from Ohio Northern University and is currently studying to become an Intervention Specialist.  When Cheyann isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her  spending time with her partner and cats. Her favorite place in the world is Brugge Belgium.
  • Dawn Foland, Tutor

    Dawn Foland


    Dawn is a teacher in Waynesfield. While Dawn has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in tutoring all different grade levels. She studied at Austin Peay State University. Dawn is a licensed intervention Specialist for grades K-12. When Dawn isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her spending time with family, baking, reading & doing jigsaw puzzles.
  • Sara Boecker, Tutor

    Sara Boecker


    Sara is currently a substitute teacher for Allen and Putnam counties. Sara has a gift for working with kids. Sara enjoys teaching both our Sylvan math and reading programs. Sara graduated from Bluffton University. She has also completed courses at Bowling Green State University and the University of Toledo. When Sara isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her spending time with her husband, reading, watching the Buckeyes and/or any of her favorite Cleveland teams.
  • Caren Beckett, Owner

    Caren Beckett


    Caren is a graduate of Bowling Green State University with her B.S. in Elementary Education.  Caren has worked with Sylvan in many different capacities since 1996.  Prior to opening the Bowling Green Center in 2001, she worked in Columbus area centers as a teacher and Director.  Caren comments "Sylvan offers programs that help students feel successful again.  The excitement shown by students when they see their school grades improve is not only rewarding as a Director, but also as an educator."
  • Craig Beckett, Owner

    Craig Beckett


    Craig is a graduate of the University of Toledo with a BS in mechanical engineering and has an MBA from the University of Findlay. He joined Sylvan in April 2006, and prior to that worked as an engineer. Craig and his wife (Caren) are involved in the daily operations in the 7 Sylvan centers they own; Bowling Green, Defiance, Findlay, Lima, Toledo, Lewis Center, and New Albany.
