Sylvan Learning Center in Mineola is growing and we are looking for fun, dedicated tutors to inspire and help our students achieve academic excellence. We are currently accepting applications for Elementary, Middle and H.S. level tutors who have a passion for teaching reading, writing and/or mathematics. Elementary Reading Tutors should have a strong background in building literacy skills with respect to print awareness, phonological awareness, phonics and fluency. Middle School & High School English Tutors should be able to help students expand their working vocabularies, improve their reading comprehension and further develop their writing skills. Instructors will work towards helping their students to develop stronger metacognitive skills to aid them in their comprehension of more difficult texts. High School Math Tutors should have a strong foundation in Algebra 1, Geometry and Algebra 2. Middle school math instruction focuses on building the foundation skills required to be successful in those more advanced courses. We value your input on each student that your teach and we need your expertise to help our students be successful. We are looking for teachers who can inspire and motivate children to develop their confidence and skills. Sylvan provides all of the lesson plans and materials that you will need to work with your students, and there is no outside prep work required. Just come in and do what you love most, teach! We are currently looking for tutors who have Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday availability. You must be available at least 2 of those days to apply. Tutoring sessions are offered year round from 4-7 pm on weeknights, and from 9-1 on Saturdays. In the summer, morning sessions are offered from 9-1 pm, in addition to the evening hours.
