Our tutors and staff in Los Altos & Mountain View consist of passionate educators who love inspiring children to succeed. Warm, caring and great at relating to kids, our tutors in Mountain View know how to engage and motivate each child in a personal way—building confidence and smiles, as well as skills and better scores.   • Vincent Zhang, Center Director

    Vincent Zhang

    Center Director

    As Center Director, Vincent leads management and operations for Sylvan of Mountain View. Vincent is a former laser physicist and specialized in optical system design. He was also a radio host in the Bay Area to host educational and sports programs. Vincent used to teach top engineers from companies such as Google, Apple, Microsoft and NASA to use professional optical design software. As a father of 3 lovely children, he has strong faith and passion in education which lead to his path at Sylvan.

    Elizabeth Vickory

    Director of Education

    Liz taught English to high school students in North Carolina for 15 years before working at Sylvan Mountain View. She has a B.A. in English with Teacher Licensure from the University of North Carolina. She has taken graduate courses in English and Education at UNCG and Wake Forest and loves to help students develop their skills, particularly in Reading, Writing, and Test Prep.

    Jeffrey Koch

    Director of Education

    Jeff holds a B.S. in Mathematics and a Masters of Education from The University at Buffalo in New York. He began his career with Sylvan in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 2011. After tutoring there for two years, he moved with his wife to California to continue his teaching career. Jeff enjoys tutoring many different subjects at Sylvan of Mountain View, including mathematics, reading, writing and SAT/ACT test prep.

    Annette Boken

    Senior Director of Education

    Annette holds a B.A. in Linguistics from Stanford University with Teaching Credentials. She has been with Sylvan for 8 years, 6 were full-time. Annette has over 14 years experience in education, training, and tutoring: Director of Education (Sylvan); classroom teaching for grades 1 and 7 (English and ESL) and adult beginning readers (Wilson System). Subjects: Reading, Writing, Math, Study Skills, SAT and Advanced Math.
  • Christine Leung, Tutor

    Christine Leung


    Christine grew up in the Bay Area. She attended Foothill College and San Jose State University after high school and then obtained her B.A. in Business Management from Menlo College in Atherton. Christine joined Sylvan Mountain View since April of 2014. Christine has been doing a great job teaching English and Math programs here at Sylvan and she is really popular among students. 
  • Julie Glenn, Tutor

    Julie Glenn


    Julie Glenn has tutored professionally for Sylvan for eight years, beginning her career at the West Gate Sylvan Center in San Jose, and recently moving to the Sylvan Mountain View Center. She has taught students of all ages for 15 years. She specializes in reading and writing, receiving her B.A. in Journalism from San Francisco State University, and her teaching credentials from San Jose State University. Julie has also worked as a professional writer and editor for five years. She enjoys helping students become excellent writers and readers.
  • Eve Zoebisch, Tutor

    Eve Zoebisch


    Eve holds a B.S. in Chemistry with a math minor from the University of Minnesota, and a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Texas at Austin. She worked in Industry to develop a well-rounded understanding of how STEM classes are used in the work force. Her work includes pharmaceutical development at SRI and at DuPont/Merck, and work on the design teams for the Xbox, the Xbox 360, and cameras used in Apple iPhone. Eve has taught at Sylvan since 2016 and enjoys teaching math and chemistry, frequently tailoring the material to the strengths of the individual.
  • Cindy Sue, Teacher

    Cindy Sue


    Cindy holds a BA in Sociology and a Master’s Degree in Special Education from Santa Clara University. Before she joined Sylvan Mountain View in 2017, she taught in Los Altos private school for 7 years and she was also K-12 substitute teacher for Harker Schools for 5 years. Cindy has been teaching for 20 years and was also an adoption social worker for the county. Cindy loves being a teacher at Sylvan and enjoys teaching reading and writing.
  • Cheryl Owens, Teacher

    Cheryl Owens


    Cheryl grew up in Chicago. She holds a B.A. in communications and journalism from Columbia College. She has worked for large corporations such as Aon and the American Medical Association as an executive assistant and copywriter, where she was responsible for writing press releases, bios for executives and copy for company newsletters and fundraising brochures. Upon moving to California, she transitioned over to the education field. Before Cheryl joined Sylvan Mountain View in 2017. She has taken coursework at Notre Dame de Namur in Belmont for a multiple subject teaching credential. Cheryl is passionate about teaching and enjoy tutoring students at Sylvan.
  • Kris Purdum, Tutor

    Kris Purdum


    Kris has been with Sylvan Mountain View since 2009. She graduated from Mount Union College in Ohio in 1996 with a B.S. in mathematics and teacher certification in mathematics and physics. In 2013 she obtained her M.S. in applied mathematics from Santa Clara University. She is certified to teach all Sylvan programs, but her favorites are mathematics, homework help (in math, physics, and chemistry), SAT/ACT test prep, and academic reading.
  • Nicki Ta, Tutor

    Nicki Ta


    Nicki has been teaching High School Math for the last seven years while raising her son. Prior to founding the Angel Venture Fund, Ms. Ta was an Investment Banker at Morgan Stanley. Ms.Ta received a BA from the University of Pennsylvania. She also studied at the University College of London in Physics, University of California Berkeley for graduate work in Eastern Philosophy, Concord School of Law, and took business courses at Stanford. Nicki loves teaching all subjects such as language arts, math and study skills at Sylvan Mountain View.
