Our tutors and staff in Napa Valley consist of passionate educators who love inspiring children to succeed. Warm, caring and great at relating to kids, our tutors in Napa know how to engage and motivate each child in a personal way—building confidence and smiles, as well as skills and better scores. We selectively choose tutors who know local curriculum and can link Sylvan lessons to what’s being taught in school. Get to know our tutors and staff in Napa Valley!

  • Anne Schramm, Center Director

    Center Director

    As Center Director, Anne leads the Napa team, focusing on setting goals for personal learning, educational outreach and putting our families at ease, as well as motivating children to succeed and thrive. She has been  recognized with several awards such as Teacher of the Year and Kiwanian of the year. She graduated from Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame, Indiana. Anne taught elementary school for 21 years in South Bend, Indiana before coming to Sylvan and has been the Center Director in Napa since it opened in 2005.  When Anne isn't at Sylvan, you'll find her golfing, staying fit or attending and cheering for her favorite sports teams. Go Irish!

    Program Manager, Early Reading, Reading and Math Instructor

    Sue joined our Sylvan of Napa Valley family in 2009. She graduated from Pacific Union College and studied Early Childhood Education. Sue recently completed her Masters in Education. She enjoys working with our young readers. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking for her family and American Quarter Horses as well as her dogs. Currently, she is managing programs and making sure all student goals are being met.

    Molly has been a valuable team member at Sylvan of Napa Valley for the past 4 years. She is a graduate of San Francisco State, where she obtained a Master's degree in Language and Literacy. Molly is also a teacher in the Napa Unified School District. She enjoys tutoring a variety of subject areas, including SylvanSync Reading and Math,  and Sylvan Beginning Reading. She also works with many of our high school students taking Spanish. In her spare time she enjoys walking her dog and hiking.

    Melissa is a reading, math and study skills instructor with a gift for working with kids. While Melissa has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in working with our middle school study skills and math students. She studied at Dominican University and earned a degree in Liberal Studies and Education. When Melissa isn't  at Sylvan, you’ll find her reading and enjoying life!

    Julie joined our Sylvan family in 2018. She brings many years of classroom teaching experience to our Sylvan center and is a favorite among our early readers. In her spare time, Julie enjoys gardening, cooking and sewing.

    Jessica has been with our Napa Sylvan since 2012. She graduated from California State University at Long Beach. Jessica loves working with our early readers as well as our math students. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, karaoke, attending theater and traveling. If she's not at Sylvan, she's probably cruising the Caribbean! 
  • Jennifer Smetzer, Center Instructor

    Center Instructor

    Jennifer joined our Napa team in 2019, and is our lead writing teacher. She also teaches Reading and Math and works with our SAT Verbal students. Jennifer graduated from Sonoma State and is currently working on her Master's Degree at San Francisco State. Her favorite hobbies include reading, playing the piano and going to concerts.

    Cyrus Freeburg

    Center Instructor

    Cyrus joined our team in 2019 and teaches reading and math to our students. He's fluent in Russian and working with students has helped him develop his teaching skills with the goal of teaching one day in Russia. Cyrus graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and enjoys crossfit training, health and languages.
