Our tutors and staff in New Iberia consist of passionate educators who love inspiring children to succeed. Warm, caring and great at relating to kids, our tutors in New Iberia know how to engage and motivate each child in a personal way—building confidence and smiles, as well as skills and better scores. We selectively choose tutors who know local curriculum and can link Sylvan lessons to what’s being taught in school. Get to know our tutors and staff in New Iberia!

    Center Director

    After graduating from UL in 1993, Troy began teaching and coaching at St. Martinville Sr. High. For several years, Troy worked at Sylvan after school and during the summer break from school. In 2004, he joined the Sylvan staff full time, assuming the role of Center Director. Troy enjoys introducing new families to Sylvan and keeping them informed of their student's progress throughout their program. On Saturday afternoons, you will find Troy and his family enjoying UL Ragin Cajun tailgating.

    Part-time Director of Education

    Tracy oversees the educational integrity of our programs in Lafayette, Broussard and New Iberia. She has been a leader at Sylvan since 2008. She brings a wealth of knowledge to Sylvan of Acadiana. She has a gift of connecting with our students, allowing her to instill lifelong skills. She devotes her energy into making sure the students succeed 100%! When Tracy isn't at Sylvan, you'll find her spending time with her son, Marshall!

    Executive Director

    Christy received her B.A. in English in 1992 and taught 5th to 8th grade English at First Baptist Christian School for two and a half years. She also taught 9th and 10th grade reading and 11th and 12th grade study skills at St. Thomas More. In October of 1996, Christy joined Sylvan as a Director of Education and in October of 1997, she bought Sylvan and became Executive Director. Christy enjoys spending time with her 2 beautiful children.

  • Olga Louviere, Instructor

    Instructor

    Mrs. Olga Louviere graduated from USL with a BA, M.Ed, and Masters Plus 30. She taught 1st grade at North Street Elementary, Live Oak Elementary, and Daspit Elementary, all in New Iberia. Olga retired after teaching for 33 years. After retirement, she worked as a Reading Interventionist Teacher at North Street Elementary for 9 years. She has been working at Sylvan Learning Center in New Iberia since 2003. She loves being a teacher at Sylvan! Reading and Writing are my favorite subjects to tutor!
  • Barbara Mitchell, Instructor

    Barbara Mitchell

    Instructor

    Barbara Mitchell is an employee with the St. Martin Parish School Board. She has been an educator with the St. Martin Parish School board for thirty-four years. She is currently a Reading / Math / Read 180 teacher at Parks Primary School in Parks, Louisiana. Barbara received here B.S. degree from Grambling University and has a M.Ed Plus 30. She tutors Reading and Math and helps Sylvan students with homework too! She has been a tutor at Sylvan of New Iberia since June of 2012. Her hobbies include collecting recipes and cookbooks and reading
  • Taylor Freeman, Instructor

    Taylor Freeman

    Instructor

    Ms. Taylor has a B.S. and a M.S. from Tulane University. Taylor has been teaching high school science for five years. She has also been teaching high school history for two years. Taylor has been a tutor at Sylvan of New Iberia since 2012. She loves helping students with Algebra, Reading, Writing, and Math Essentials as well as Study Skills. When she is not teaching or working here at Sylvan, she enjoys traveling, reading and writing.

    Assistant Center Director (part time)

    Cynthia received her Bachelor of Science in Home Economics and taught for one year at the University of Southwestern Louisiana (currently University of Louisiana) in the Department of Human Resources. She did substitute teaching in both local public and private schools and at Lafayette Regional Institute. She began her Sylvan career in 1992. Cynthia enjoys working directly with the schools to help ensure the success of all her Sylvan students.
  • Michael Durand, Tutor

    Michael Durand

    Tutor

    Michael studied at the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now the University of Louisiana Lafayette), where he earned his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in English. He started with Sylvan at the New Iberia Center in 2013 and currently divides his time between all three centers. Mr. Michael is an active member of the Iberia Performing Arts League and can often be found acting, directing and serving on committees.
