  • Victoria is a young lady who has had her share of problems in school.  When her mom, Elizabeth, brought Victoria to Sylvan Learning Center of NW Houston, it was because she was significantly behind in school and was just not catching up. Victoria tested well below grade level and was enrolled in the Academic Reading program.  Victoria responded very well to the program and moved up several levels within a couple of months. Elizabeth and Victoria, along with the Sylvan staff, were so happy for her.  She continues to excel at Sylvan and recently received a progress report with nothing lower than a B.  Elizabeth is so happy with the progress Victoria has made and wants to share her thoughts with others: "Victoria has always struggled with reading.  It was difficult for her to keep up at school and each year she fell further behind. When we found Sylvan, I was hopeful that she would be able to progress, but she has surpassed my wildest dreams."

  • Caleb was brought to the Sylvan of NW Houston after he had repeated 1st grade and was still having trouble. His grandmother contacted us because she would read with him at home and she noticed lots of struggles. Doing homework was a major frustration and it caused disagreements between Caleb and his mother. After completing 1st grade twice, he was still testing below level. Caleb was enrolled in our Reading program and has grown leaps and bounds in less than 2 months. Caleb is now reading more independently and has more confidence. His is no longer asking for as much help and homework time is no longer stressful.  Caleb's mother says: "Before, when Caleb would read he would ask for help and not sound out the words. He is much more independent and confident.

  • Liliana came to the Sylvan of NW Houston because of problems she was having in school. Lilly was diagnosed with dyslexia, and although the school does many interventions, she was still having trouble with her reading skills. Her parents, Matt and Cristina, brought her to Sylvan for a skills assessment since she was performing poorly on benchmarks and the STAAR.  Homework time was also significantly difficult and Lilly was not independent. Since attending Sylvan, Lilly has developed some needed confidence, is now doing homework independently, and has improved her grades in school. Cristina and Matt are very pleased they chose to seek outside help from Sylvan for Lilly!  Lilly's mother had this to say: "Lilly has had lots of problems in school with having dyslexia.  Sylvan has helped her develop more confidence and they even work hard to be very flexible, which helps our family's schedule.
