Our tutors and staff in Oak Harbor consist of passionate educators who love inspiring children to succeed. Warm, caring and great at relating to kids, our tutors in Oak Harbor know how to engage and motivate each child in a personal way—building confidence and smiles, as well as skills and better scores.     Mrs. Wilson is an owner/teacher in Oak Harbor with a passion for working with kids of all ages. While she enjoys tutoring many subjects, and had the opportunity to teach many when she home-schooled her sons from kindergarten through junior high school, she finds the most joy in talking about Chemistry!! She tremendously enjoyed teaching college and high school chemistry, as well as Household Physics and Household Chemistry, geared toward elementary students. Her family is her greatest treasure and favorite hobby, and she is thankful to call Oak Harbor her forever home!

    Carmen Williams is an educator in Oak Harbor, WA with a passion for science, specifically Chemistry. Her favorite part of teaching is seeing kids rejoice in their accomplishments and find a new academic interests. Carmen received her BS in Chemistry from Mississippi State University and a Master of Science with a thesis on Computational Chemistry from Mississippi College. She enjoys working with students in various subjects but especially loves tutoring math at the Sylvan Center. When not tutoring, you can find Carmen with her husband and two dogs exploring the beautiful outdoors and catching as many sunsets by the water as she can.

    Travis is an Assistant Center Director in Oak Harbor, WA with a gift for fostering a positive environment of perpetual learning. While Travis has many talents, he finds the greatest joy in helping people realize their goals through positive reinforcement. He studied at Brandman University, earning his MA in Organizational Leadership. When Travis isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find him traveling and exploring with family, reading, watching movies, and cheering on his favorite sports teams.

    Chris Ley is a tutor in Oak Harbor, WA with a gift for sharing mathematics. While Chris has many tutoring talents he enjoys sharing his love of mathematics with students. He studied and works at Skagit Valley College. When Chris isn't at Sylvan, you may find him playing board games with friends, hiking outdoors, or enjoying a scrumptious burger.

    Lenita is a tutor with a gift for working with kids. She enjoys tutoring because she enjoys helping students gain confidence and empowerment through education. She finds the greatest joy in tutoring reading and writing and studied at the University of Alaska and the University of Washington. When Lenita isn’t at Sylvan, she likes to write, read, sing, walk her Japanese Spitz, and do needlecrafts.

    Teddy is a Sylvan Teacher/Tutor in Oak Harbor, WA with a passion for inspiring students’ love of learning. While Teddy has many talents, the greatest joy Teddy finds in teaching is the ability to instruct reading in a fun and engaging way. Teddy studies at Skagit Valley College, majoring in Childhood Education. Outside of Sylvan and school, you can find Teddy riding horses or creating art!

    David is a teacher at Sylvan Oak Harbor, WA with a gift for working with kids. While David has many tutoring talents, he finds the greatest joy in History tutoring. He studied at Columbia College in Oak Harbor, WA to earn his Bachelor's in General Studies with a Minor in History. When David isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find him subbing at Oak Harbor Christian School and Oak Harbor Public Schools. He is also very active in his church, Oak Harbor Assembly of God, where he volunteers in Children's Ministries. Some of his favorite activities are hiking, cooking, and board games.

    During her time as Center Director, Melanie led the day-to-day operations, progress monitoring, and conferencing for Sylvan Learning Center of Oak Harbor. Melanie continues as a Teacher and Academic Coach at Sylvan. She studied at the University of Connecticut, where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction. She taught middle school math for multiple years, then made WA her home, where she began with Sylvan. When Melanie isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her hiking, visiting coffee shops, or crocheting.

    Ms. Courtney is a School Psychologist in Coupeville, WA with a gift for working with kids. While Ms. Courtney has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in math tutoring and assessment proctoring. She studied at Eastern Washington University. When Ms. Courtney isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her combing the local beaches for sea glass and agates, paddleboarding with her boys, or enjoying the flowers on her back deck.

    Autumn Parks is substitute teacher in Oak Harbor School District with a passion for working with kids. She has 2 Master's degrees in Education and believes it's important to always continue learning. When Autumn isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her doing some kind of craft, like crocheting, or chilling with her mini poodle.

    Certified Teacher

    Liz Weaver is a teacher from Oak Harbor with a gift for teaching high schoolers. She earned a BA in English and Comparative Literature and her MA in Teaching, with an emphasis in Educational Leadership at Occidental College. She also has her Master’s in Educational Administration from Concordia University and 21 years of experience teaching grades 7-12 ELD, English, and Advanced Placement Literature & Composition. While serving as English Department Chair, Liz began the implementation of the Common Core Standards and served as the Secondary Common Core Specialist for the district. She enjoys spending her free time traveling, reading, writing, and collecting wine.
