Sylvan Part-Time STEM Teacher

Did you grow up playing with LEGOs®? Does playing with one of your favorite childhood toys while educating the next generation of scientists and engineers sound fun and rewarding? Do you have a love for computers and working with children? Have you ever created lines of code? Are you a college student? A recent graduate? A teacher? If you answered yes to any of these questions, we are looking for someone like you to fill part-time instructor positions for our new STEM programs, a series of courses on Robotics and Coding for elementary, and middle school aged children. Work will take place primarily at local schools, with some additional hours at Sylvan Learning Center. Coding Responsibilities: Have a basic knowledge of comfort with, and interest in computer programming. Supervise, interact with, and motivate students (grades 3-5) during instruction while they work (6:1 ratio). Communicate with parents in person and via email. Communicate class needs to the Center Director. Develop Rapport with students and establish a fun learning environment. Maintain a positive attitude and demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching and Sylvan. Be dependable and reliable. Adhere to principles and techniques defined in training and ongoing coaching. Robotics Responsibilities: Supervise, interact with, and motivate students in grades 2-6 while they build projects according to scripted lesson plans. Facilitate learning and positive group dynamics among students. Work as a team with fellow teachers and teacher's aides. Communicate with customers via email following each session. Communicate class needs to the manager. Develop Rapport with students and establish a fun learning environment. Maintain a positive attitude and demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching, Sylvan and Sylvan products. Pick up and drop off equipment as necessary. Be dependable and reliable. Adhere to principles and techniques defined in training and ongoing coaching. Requirements: Experience working with groups of elementary-aged children. Interest in STEM related topics.
