Tutor

David is an upper level math and science tutor at the Piedmont Center in Piedmont, Ca. David has been with the Piedmont team for many years. He has a special gift in working with students in an individual one on one setting. Chemistry, Pr-Calculus, and Calculus are some of David’s areas of strength. David comes highly requested for those challenging math classes. A man with great work-life balance, David enjoys traveling across the country and world in his spare time.

Rae Martin

Tutor

Rae is a tutor in Piedmont, CA with a gift for working with kids. While Rae has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in reading and writing tutoring. She studied at San Francisco State University. When Rae isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her in used book shops, record stores, or the movies.

Tutor

Bell is a person with many skills, ranging from all reading, mathematics, and writing! While they studied at the University of Texas at Austin, they achieved both a BA in English and a BS in Radio-Television-Film with a minor in education. No matter what Program Bell teaches, their students feel much stronger about their academics. Bell’s primary objective is to have students overcome their fears and to learn new, daunting subjects. Their drive to elevate both a student’s comprehension and confidence has helped numerous students during Bell’s time here at Sylvan. In their free time, Bell enjoys reading, journaling, watching movies, and finding hidden gems around the Bay Area.

Laurel L.

Tutor

Laurel is a passionate teacher with a degree in Child Development with minors in Urban Education and Public Policy. With her expertise, Laurel accompanies learners through their journey and encourages students to flourish in their curiosity. When students work with Laurel, they feel safe and ask questions to further their understanding in math and reading. In the Writing Program, the students expand their composition skills through fun and engaging lessons. In her free time, Laurel crochets toys, stuffed animals, blankets, and organizational tools. She also loves reading novels, playing games, and going for hikes in the Oakland hills.

Angelica A.

Tutor

In our Mathematics program, Angelica makes her students feel more confident about themselves, and tailors her lessons to students’ learning styles. She understands how difficult math can be, and this drives her passion to never give up on a student. Angelica leads with compassion and patience, making sure every student’s needs are met and their confidence grows. Each day, Angelica works hard at San Jose State for her Math and Computer Science degrees. Outside of work and school, Angelica explores the world by trying new boba places and going to concerts. She also explores a “small world” through her trips to Disneyland!

Malea L.

Admin

As one of our administrators, Malea connects with each student on a personal level to make the learning process fun. In addition, she also teaches in our Beginning Reading, Reading, and Mathematics programs. Her sweet demeanor ensures all students in our center feel welcome to be here and can be comfortable taking risks to flourish in their subjects. Outside of Sylvan, Malea’s creative side shines. She loves to crochet and draw, as well as hanging out with her dog Winston, and hiking with her boyfriend!

Eli S.

Tutor

Eli leads his math and reading lessons with compassion. Although a student may not feel confident with their work, when a student works with Eli in either the math or reading program, they’re able to climb past obstacles and they grow above and beyond their own expectations. Eli relates his own experiences with his students, forming a close bond that enhances the learning process. He enjoys making the work both interesting and easier for students to understand. With a BS in Biological Sciences from San Francisco University, Eli connects with the world around him, either through work, or through his music, with his family, or his 3 pure-bred English Pointers.
