    Teresa Kowatch

    Center Director

    As Center Director, Teresa conferences with families and schools, conducts initial assessments, and maintains the center's schedules for Sylvan of Portland. A former teacher, Teresa chose a career in the tutoring business because she understands the need for supplemental education. She studied at George Fox University and has been with Sylvan since the late 1990s. When Teresa isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her baking, gardening, or spending time with her kids.

    Tanya Brame

    Director of Education

    Tanya began working at Sylvan in the spring of 2003.  She has been a classroom teacher and a child development specialist as well as a tutor.  She has a deep love of education and a strong desire to help all children and young adults reach their academic potential. Tanya was previously nominated for math and science teacher of the year and also selected as Teacher of Excellence by Portland Public Schools.  Tanya hopes to continue working at Sylvan for many years to come.

    Janet Lefor


    Janet began her journey into teaching thirty-six years ago after earning a multiple subjects teaching credential. This type of teaching credential allowed her to teach all core subjects in every grade. Beyond teaching in the classroom, Janet has focused on individual instruction and tutoring for thirty-four years. Her passion is helping others build skills toward personal success. In addition to raising her five children, she assisted them in raising guide dogs for the blind. Their guide dogs have been placed in service with people who live in several different states. Janet enjoys life by swimming, gardening, and reading historical novels.
