  • Roger Shore, Executive Director

    Roger Shore

    Executive Director

    Roger is a former classroom teacher with experience in grades K-8. Following his teaching career, Roger received a master's degree in clinical psychology and worked in private practice as a marriage, family and child counselor specializing in families and school related problems. He opened the Cupertino Sylvan Learning Center in 1993, the Center in San Jose in 1994 and the Mt. View Center in 2000.
  • Pete Delucchi, Center Director

    Pete Delucchi

    Center Director

    Pete started with Sylvan in 2005 and has worn many hats. He previously worked in public education for 5 years as a classroom teacher serving in many leadership roles like: Gifted and Talented Education Coordinator, technology support, and union representation. Furthermore, he worked in the technology industry. Pete’s skills with writing, editing and web design were used by corporations like Sony, Gateway Computers, and PeopleSoft. Finally, Pete loves film and also enjoys hiking.
  • Nicole Laverty, Director of Education

    Nicole Laverty

    Director of Education

    Nicole oversees the educational integrity of our programs, managing and training our team of teachers in San Jose. She received her B.A. in Spanish and psychology from Drew University in Madison, NJ and her M.A. in Teaching from Monmouth University in West Long Branch, NJ. Nicole holds teaching credentials in both elementary education and Spanish. For the last eighteen years,she has taught Spanish (beginning through advanced), English reading, writing, and grammar, and study skills to students in K through high school. In addition, she directed an after school program for four years. When she is not at Sylvan, you may find Nicole jogging or walking with her husband and dog.
  • Karyn Cipresso, Tutor

    Karyn has been a professional educator since earning her Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from San Jose State University in 2004. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and her master’s degree from San Jose State University. Her experience teaching a variety of subjects and ages allows her to be quite versatile, but she especially enjoys tutoring reading and writing. Moreover, she believes that one of life’s greatest pleasures is to be captivated by a really wonderful book. Karyn takes a genuine interest in her students and makes the most of opportunities to encourage students to fully develop their academic skills and abilities.  
  • Peggy Heredia, Tutor

    Peggy Heredia

    Tutor

    Peggy has worked at Sylvan Learning Center of San Jose as a tutor for 15 years. She attended St. Elizabeth in New Jersey and Fordham University in New York, graduating with a degree in education. Peggy also attended New Jersey State Teachers College on a grant for education. She later received a certificate from West Valley College for administration in education. Peggy has a New Jersey teaching credential in multiple subjects and a California Credential in Humanities. She has previously taught grades 1-5. At Sylvan she teaches reading, math, language, writing, study skills and homework support. In her free time Peggy enjoys spending time with her family, oil painting and horseback riding.

    Petros has been with Sylvan Camden since 2006. He received his degree in mathematics from California State University Fullerton. He has passion for mathematics and loves to teach it. He tutors all level of math including Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus, Statistics, and more. He strongly believes that as a teacher he has the responsibility of teaching math and as well as motivating students to have the same passion for mathematics. He believes math at any level is very easy and fun if we encounter it the right way.

    Larry Laskowski

    Tutor

    Larry joined Sylvan San Jose at the Camden Avenue center in 2013, serving Union, Campbell Union, and San Jose Unified School Districts. As a high school teacher, Larry has taught Chemistry (Honors and regular), and AP Biology and Environmental Science. Larry enjoys tutoring students in Reading and Math as well as helping with Science and Math homework. He also teaches science and math in Adult Education at the Fremont Union High School District. Prior to teaching Larry worked in high technology companies as an engineer and software manager. He holds a Masters Degree in Education and one in Computer Science from Santa Clara University. Larry enjoys bicycling in his free time.

    Marina is a tutor at Sylvan San Jose. She has special expertise in math and physics tutoring. Marina studied at the University of Moscow. When Marina is not working at Sylvan you’ll find her hiking with her husband or spending time her cat.

    Connie has worked as an instructor at Sylvan of San Jose since March 2013. She is a graduate of Calvin College where she obtained her BA in Elementary Education, and Michigan State University where she received her MA in Curriculum and Development. Connie was a classroom teacher at San Jose Christian School for 17 years in grades 2-4, particularly enjoying instruction in early literacy skills, reading, writing, and math. Before that she taught in Michigan, Nigeria, and Wisconsin. Connie has experience tutoring one on one, in small groups with children after school, and teaching her own classes in the last 25 years. In her free time, Connie enjoys reading, movies, theater, and travel.
  • Karenlee Zandi, Tutor

    Karenlee Zandi

    Karenlee has worked as a tutor at Sylvan of Camden Rd, San Jose since March of 2009. She is a graduate of San Jose State University where she obtained her BA in child development, then her CLAD, K-8 teaching credential. Previous to Sylvan Learning of Camden, Karenlee taught fifth grade, and is currently teaching first grade at San Martin/Gwinn Elementary school. She has a lot of experience teaching early literacy skills, reading, writing, and study skills one on one, in small groups with children after school, and teaching her own classes for 14 years. In her free time she likes to go hiking, camping, and reading mysteries.

    Gary is an instructor in San Jose, CA with a gift for working with kids. While Gary has many tutoring talents, he finds the greatest joy in math as well as reading tutoring. He studied at San Jose State University. When Gary isn't at Sylvan, you'll find him hiking or reading books.

    Betsy started with Sylvan Camden in 2010. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree, in Liberal Arts from the University of Tennessee. She received her Master's Degree in Special Education from National University in 2003. She has been teaching students with special needs as a Resource Specialist and a Special Day Class teacher for grades Kindergarten through eighth grade, for 13 years. In her free time, Betsy enjoys spending time with her family at their wooded property in the mountains of Northern California. She tutors Sylvan Beginning Reading, Academic Reading, Sylvan Math Essentials, and Writing.

    Curtis has been working with Sylvan Learning since January 2014 and at the Camden office since January 2015. He also teaches Sylvan’s Ace-IT! afterschool program and Sylvan’s summer reading and math programs for Sunnyvale’s Summer Express program. He got his BA in Sociology/Anthropology from Carleton College in Minnesota, his Master in Education in Early Childhood Education from Antioch University in New Hampshire and holds a California multiple subject teaching credential. Curtis has also been a National Park Ranger at Zion National Park. His hobbies include hiking and Ingress.

    Elisheva (who goes by Ellie) joined Sylvan Learning Camden in the spring of 2017. She is currently a substitute teacher for several school districts including San Jose Unified School District, Fremont Union High School District and Cupertino Union School District. She is a regular substitute teacher for Castillero, Bret Harte and John Muir Middle Schools and Leland, Pioneer and Lincoln High Schools. Elisheva loves teaching science, specifically biology and health science and she loves teaching English and writing and has a passion for working with students of all ages. When she is not working or tutoring, Elisheva is working on her Master's in Teaching for Biology and hopes to have her own classroom in the near future. Elisheva lives in Almaden Valley and has a husband, two daughters, a dog and cat.

    Beverly Winegar has been a math teacher for 17 years. She loves tutoring math. She went to the University of Florida and then she got a masters from San Jose State. She really enjoys the personal attention that Sylvan allows her as a tutor to give to her students.

    Sandy is a tutor in San Jose, CA. Her special expertise is math tutoring. She recently retired from Willow Glen Middle School where she taught math for 12 years. She studied at Santa Clara University. In the early years of her teaching career, she also tutored at Sylvan for several years. When she isn't at Sylvan, you'll find her playing golf and cheering on the 49ers.

    Sally joins the Sylvan Camden Center after working a few years earlier at Hamilton Sylvan. She looks forward to working with all students, assisting them in being successful in their academics. Sally brings 20 years of varied educational experience in the Bay Area as: SDC/RSP Teacher, Adult Education Teacher, Substitute Teacher, Park and Recreation Instructor, Slingerland Intern and Special Education Advocate. Sally has a M.A. in Special Education from San Francisco State University. She also has her B.F.A. in Art – Ceramics from California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, CA. When Sally isn’t at Sylvan she enjoys nature, taking walks, reading, gardening, quilting and making art.
  • Krisha Young, Center Assistant

    Krisha Young

    Center Assistant

    Krisha Young is the Center Administrative Assistant in San Jose CA, with gift of working with kids. She enjoys giving back to her community by volunteering at her local church and teaching catechist students. As a mother of 2, she loves to travel (especially Disneyland), and perform (Hawaiian) dance hula/tahitian with her daughter, while her husband and son drums. You can find her and her Halau group performing at the Warriors Stadium during half time at the Polynesian Night, May Day festivals, Eastridge Mall, Disneyland California Adventures and much more. She has strong faith and passion towards educating students in Sylvan achieving their goals.
