Bringing a wealth of information from across the world, Elena leads us here at Sylvan with an IRON FIST! But not really. She's a loving mother of two who turned to teaching and education as a career to better guide the learning process of children, including her own. Originally from Romania, educated with a Philosophy degree, and fluent in multi-cultural education, Elena spends most of her free time in outdoor spots including biking and hiking. That is, with two kids, when she can get free time!
  • Jessica Campora, Director of Education

    Jessica Campora

    Director of Education

Jessica is originally from Memphis, TN, but is thrilled to have made the trek to Seattle in 2015! She comes to Sylvan with a Master’s of Arts in Teaching under her belt as well as with both teaching and instructional coaching experience. She has taught everything from STEM subjects to reading! She loves to share her passion for learning and hopes to develop lifelong learners and future leaders! On her days off, she likes to be active through hiking, attending Zumba classes, rooting on some of her favorite sports teams, and- of course- spending time with her two fur babies (AKA dogs)- Chloe and Cooper!
  • Marie, Tutor

Marie Rose holds a BS in engineering, specifically aeronautical and mechanical. She started teaching math and science 12 years ago. That hooked her on teaching! She has been teaching and tutoring math and science ever since, including here at Sylvan of Northgate since 2007! Her favorite part is getting the students confident and excited about math and science. Sylvan of Northgate gives her the opportunity to work with kids one-on-one in a way they usually don't get in the classroom. Marie enjoys playing video games, writing stories, drawing and painting, and, of course, science!
  • Marilyn , TEACHER

Marilyn has been teaching writing, reading, math, and study skills at Sylvan since 2006. Before teaching, she worked in arts management, university administration, instructional media design, writing, and production. From the University of Washington, she received B.A. in History and Master of Education degrees. At Antioch University, she completed the Graduate Teacher Preparation program, receiving certification. She loves to get together with friends, cook, go to ethnic restaurants, watch movies, read, play music, and explore the Pacific Northwest. For Marilyn, seeing students develop confidence in their abilities is the best part about teaching at Sylvan!
  • May, Tutor

A true born and raised Seattlite, May has some serious global background: spending some time away in Guatemala and Jamaica for the Peace Corps, she taught agriculture and nutrition to families, women's groups, and schools. May has a BA in Economics from the U of Puget Sound, and a M. Ed in Elementary Ed from Antioch Seattle! Here at Sylvan, she teaches math and reading - May loves bring a part of a student's education and the challenge of helping young people learn. When she's not teaching her experienced ways, May spends her time hiking, walking her dog (who came back with her from Guatemala!), and caring for her new five chickens.
  • Gregg, Tutor

Originally from North Dakota, and just making it over to the Seattle area, Gregg brings Sylvan of North Seattle a breath of fresh mid-west air! But what did Gregg do all the way over there? He got his BS in Computer Science, a BA in Journalism, and a delicious Masters in Information Systems Management. Crazy Smart! Gregg tutors in both Math and Reading here at Sylvan: both are problem solving skills that work hand-in-hand. He loves learning from students and, of course, seeing that "lightbulb moment". When Gregg isn't teaching he's reading, cooking, and practicing martial arts! What's so cool about Gregg? He was 6'2" when he was only 12 years old!
  • Kevin C, Tutor

    Kevin C

A Seattle native, Kevin has been in love with learning ever since high school. He currently holds an Assoc. of Science and Biology! What's he doing now besides tutoring math and homework support here at Sylvan? Getting his biochemistry degree at the ever-famous UW! Kevin's goal is to motivate and pass on his knowledge to students seeking the same academic achievements that he was able to accomplish. When Kevin is not learning, he's playing video games and exploring nature.
  • Octavio, Teacher

Octavio was born in Colombia, studied Computer Sciences in college, has been teaching Spanish since 2001, and has been working with Sylvan since 2012. He loves to teach his mother language (Spanish) to students that really appreciate the learning, either because it’s required at school or just because they like it and want to speak it. Octavio loves music, his favorite being Latin and Classical. He loves to dance, travel, meet new people from different cultures and reading. He loves working at Sylvan because it gives him the chance to work with kids that are motivated and extremely smart. Fun fact about Octavio: He hates ALL spicy food, and does not enjoy American football! (Sorry, Seahawks)
  • Alva, Teacher

Alva is a sophomore at the University of Washington majoring in Computer Science. He also did running start in high school for two years at Bellevue College. His hobbies include playing ultimate Frisbee at the UW. Alva’s favorite thing about working at Sylvan is helping students develop their problem-solving abilities! An interesting fact about Alva: He holds the Guinness World Record for fastest time to set up a chess board!!
  • Kevin L, Teacher

    Kevin L

Kevin is from Kent, WA. He is currently pursuing his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Washington. Some of Kevin’s hobbies are working out, hiking, and cooking! His favorite part about working at Sylvan is helping to supply kids with the resources to find their academic passion. An interesting fact about Kevin is that he really likes looking at different trees, and one day hopes to start growing Bonsai trees!
  • Mac, Teacher

Mac grew up in the small town of Gig Harbor, and moved to Seattle 3 years ago to start school at UW. He is a current math major and loving it. While not doing schoolwork, Mac likes to play video games, Dungeons and Dragons, and generally be a big nerd. He also loves hiking (when the lovely weather of the northwest allows for it). His favorite thing about working at Sylvan is seeing how excited students get when they finally understand a concept!
  • Bill, Teacher

Bill has lived in Washington all of his life. While finishing up his mathematics degree at University of Washington Seattle, his favorite part about working at Sylvan is helping students understand the essence of the material. When not at Sylvan, he likes to read (science fiction), cook, play board games, and backpack. One thing Bill does love is puns, much to the chagrin of others.
  • Matt, Teacher

Matt received an aerospace engineering master’s degree from the Missouri University of Science and Technology and obtained his bachelors from the University of Washington. During his education, he spent much of his time in plasma laboratories conducting electrical experiments. He is originally from Alaska where he learned to enjoy snowboarding, mountain biking, and cross-country running. He has past experience tutoring college, high school, and elementary school students through a range of one-on-one to class room sized groups. Matt’s favorite thing about tutoring is seeing students who previously thought they weren’t any good at math, become confident and excited about the material.
