Our tutors and staff in Sherman Oaks & Studio City consist of passionate educators who love inspiring children to succeed. Warm, caring and great at relating to kids, our tutors in Sherman Oaks know how to engage and motivate each child in a personal way—building confidence and smiles, as well as skills and better scores.     Cat Chittick

    Education/Operations Coordinator

    After receiving her degree from Wayne State University in Michigan, Cat moved to Los Angeles and spent several years teaching Shakespeare in the Beyond Borders: Arts and Language for Youth program. She has worked for the Sylvan Learning Center for over 10 years in many different roles. In her free time, Catherine enjoys baking, doing anything crafty, and spending time with her husband and two children.

    Jeryn Warren

    Director of Education

    Jeryn oversees the educational integrity of our programs, managing and training our team of tutors in Sherman Oaks. A former curriculum developer, Jeryn has worked with schools, museums, and education companies in Nashville, Boston, and Los Angeles. Jeryn brings a wealth of knowledge to Sylvan of Sherman Oaks. Her degrees are from Belmont University and the University of Tennessee. When Jeryn isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her with her nose in a book, writing, playing in the ocean, or dancing in the kitchen. 
  • Sharie Palatt, Tutor

    Sharie Palatt


    Sharie is thrilled to be a Sylvan teacher! Possessing a California State multiple subject credential has allowed her to develop an extensive teaching background. She has had experience teaching in self-contained classrooms, in addition to one-on-one and small group tutoring. Sharie earned her Master’s Degree in Creative Writing in June 2012 from Antioch University in Los Angeles. Her employment in a variety of elementary schools and two design colleges has enabled her to carry out her passion for working with learners of all ages. When she is not teaching, Sharie enjoys reading, watching baseball (she is an avid Dodgers fan!), and spending time with her husband and two adult children.  
  • Kristie Burgess, Tutor

    Kristie Burgess


    Kristie is a passionate educator who loves helping students understand a new concept or master a new skills. After raising her children as a stay-at-home mom, Krisite completed her Bachelors Degree and obtained her teaching credential, with an authorization to teach Algebra I and Geometry. While at CSUN she won the Eva Latif and Oliver Evans Writing Prizes. She also won an award for student achievement in math by a Liberal Studies major. When she’s not at Sylvan, you’ll find Kristie spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren, bowling in her weekly league, enjoying her new gym membership and traveling the world.
  • Rachel Francavillo, Tutor

    Rachel Francavillo


    Rachel happily teaches math, reading, and writing at Sylvan of Sherman Oaks and Studio City. She is also a proud AmeriCorps member currently serving eighth grade students at Virgil Middle School in Koreatown. As an AmeriCorps member, she works as a near-peer tutor, mentor and role model in an effort to close the achievement gap in LAUSD. She is very excited to see her eighth graders culminate this year! Before joining the Sylvan family, Rachel worked as an early learning class assistant at Kumon Learning Center for six years. At Kumon of Chinatown in New York City, she worked as an early learning instructor for students in Pre-K through sixth grade. Rachel received her bachelor's degree from New York University's Gallatin School of Individualized Study, where she studied history, storytelling, and rhetoric. Originally an actress, Rachel likes to bring focused energy, enthusiasm, and creativity into her lessons. Let's have a productive and fun school year!
