Our tutors and staff in Stafford consist of passionate educators who love inspiring children to succeed. Warm, caring and great at relating to kids, our tutors in Stafford know how to engage and motivate each child in a personal way—building confidence and smiles, as well as skills and better scores. We selectively choose tutors who know local curriculum and can link Sylvan lessons to what’s being taught in school.

SCOTT LINDSEY
FRANCHISEE, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Scott has over fourteen years of experience with Sylvan Learning. Scott spent several years in the Middle East opening new Sylvan centers. As the franchisee, Scott enjoys meeting new families to determine their tutoring needs. A native of Alabama, he has lived in the DC Metro area for over nineteen years. Scott enjoys traveling, reading on the beach and Alabama football: Roll Tide.
CHERICE TAYLOR
CENTER DIRECTOR
Cherice has over ten years of experience as a teacher at the preschool through high school levels. A former Community Engagement Manager, Cherice chose to enter the tutoring field to help improve the opportunities for all students to reach their potential. Raised in Los Angeles, she received her BA in Spanish from the University of California, Los Angeles, and her MA in Education Administration from the California State University, Dominguez Hills. Cherice is a military spouse, who has lived in the Virginia area for 18 years with her husband and four sons. When she isn’t at Sylvan, she is at a baseball or track event, listening to jazz or dreaming about being at the beach with her family.
Gloria San Juan
Tutor
Gloria Nectarina San Juan is a Special Education teacher in Stafford , VA with a gift for working with kids. While Gloria has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in Reading and Math tutoring. She studied at De La Salle University, Manila, Philippines. When Gloria isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her cooking, baking, reading, and listening to music.
KIM HULICK
TUTOR
Kim was an ESL teacher and a reading specialist for several years, before finding her love of tutoring again. She loves working with students and helping them understand their work. She graduated from Longwood University with a BS/MS and an ESL certificate from University of Mary Washington. When she is not tutoring, she loves spending time outside and with family.
YANIRA PEREZ-SUAREZ
TUTOR
Ms. Yani has been an elementary school paraprofessional for many years and has taught English at middle and high school level too. While having many talents, her favorite subjects are Reading and Writing. She studied at University of Puerto Rico. When Ms. Yani isn’t at Sylvan, she enjoys spending time with her family and pet bunnies.
KATHY WELLER
TUTOR
Kathy has been a public school teacher for over 25 years in Fredericksburg City Schools. She is currently working on her special education endorsement through UVA. Kathy received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary and Early Childhood Education from Millersville University, as well as her M.Ed. from Troy University in Instructional Technology. She loves working with younger students. When she’s not teaching, you will find her reading, gardening, and spending time with family.
Holly Ann Robinson
Tutor
Holly Ann Robinson has been teaching English and drama for forty years, twenty three of which were in Stafford County. After retiring in 2013, she has continued tutoring and is very happy to be with Sylvan.
Kate Tipton
Tutor
Kate Tipton joined the Sylvan family in 2021. Until 2021, she was a full-time middle school English teacher for The Carmel School in Ruther Glen, VA. She left full-time teaching to pursue another dream: being a stay-at-home mom to her beautiful children. In her free time, Kate loves to read, write, hike, watch movies and be with her family.
Jeanne Alexander
Center Assistant/Tutor
Jeanne Alexander serves the Sylvan family as a Center Assistant and occasionally as a tutor. She graduated from George Mason University with a degree in Foreign Language. She teaches her children and also teaches STEM and Spanish classes (elementary through high school) for a local homeschool co-op. Her idea of a great day involves a glass of sweet iced tea and a really good book to read. She, her husband, and kids spend time outside hiking, biking, and boating while enjoying the great outdoors.
Arlene McKinzie
Center Assistant/Tutor
Arlene graduated from the University of Mary Washington with her bachelor’s degree in music. She is currently working on her Master of Education at UMW. She likes to spend her free time reading, doing crafts, and photography. She also enjoys time with her brothers and niece and visits her son in Florida often.
