Our tutors and staff in Washington consist of passionate educators who love inspiring children to succeed. Warm, caring and great at relating to kids, our tutors in Washington know how to engage and motivate each child in a personal way—building confidence and smiles, as well as skills and better scores. We selectively choose tutors who know local curriculum and can link Sylvan lessons to what’s being taught in school. Get to know our tutors and staff in Washington!

  • Dr Jacqueline Ward, Center Director & Owner

    As the local Director, Dr Ward, has recently stepped into the role of owner. Licensed as Superintendent, SpEdu Director, Principal & Special Educator,  she chose a career with Sylvan because it allows her to concentrate on the individual growth of each student rather than district level initiatives. As the current state level President of the Council of Exceptional Children, she does some adjunct university work to better equip upcoming educational administrators. She earned her BA at Webster U & completed MA & EdD through JIU. When Dr Ward isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her working on her farm or spending time with her six children & grandchild- all who are local when not in the Army.
  • Marietta Stiebler, Teacher- specializing in Elementary & Middle Grades

    Marietta Stiebler

    Teacher- specializing in Elementary & Middle Grades

    Marietta has been with the center for a number of years and continues to work with parents to help provide the best programs to meet their students' personal needs. As an educator she brings a wealth of knowledge to Sylvan of Washington. Marietta graduated from Southeast MO State with a BA in Elementary and Special Education. She received her MA in Education Administration from Southwest MO Sate University. When Marietta is not at Sylvan, you'll find her reading, traveling with her husband, or playing with her grandchildren.
  • Carrie Wands, Teacher- specializing in Math and Sciences

    Teacher- specializing in Math and Sciences

    Carrie was certified as a Math teacher after having completed her BS in Math EDU at Ill State and BS In EDU @ Lincoln Christian. Carrie taught in both the middle and high school levels for more than 13 years and has been with Sylvan for 7 1/2. During those years, she has been instrumental in supporting the development of math skills for a number of youth, she is also competent in improving the effectiveness of their reading rate and ACT/ SAT scores as well as supporting the needs of those who struggle with their homework and study skills. When not with us at Sylvan, you will find her with her husband and children or doing something in support of the church. 
  • Karen Ward, Tutor- specializing in early learners & special needs

    Karen Ward

    Tutor- specializing in early learners & special needs

    Karen has retired from teaching in the SLPS District in St Louis,  MO after years of working with those with differing learning needs. As a Special Educator, we have seen her reach some of the most challenged, reluctant youth and gain a confidence in their own abilities. When she isn't working with kids, most often you will find her touring some community event or caring for one or more of her eight dogs. She earned her initial teaching credentials through Harris Stowe, she has earned two masters at Webster University for cross cat SpEd and Educational Technology. 
  • Ryan Hill, Tutor- specializing in STEM and ACT support

    Ryan Hill

    Tutor- specializing in STEM and ACT support

    Ryan is a tutor with a gift of working with kids. Ryan continues his collegiate studies in Chemistry and Math. As an avid reader, he finds joy in helping students gain self confidence and autonomy in their studies. He helps with our Coding, Robotics and Engineering programs as well as homework support efforts. He studies at Maryville University and when he isn't at Sylvan, you'll find him reading, gaming or working on a book intended for publication.
