Our tutors and staff in West Covina consist of passionate educators who love inspiring children to succeed. Warm, caring and great at relating to kids, our tutors in West Covina know how to engage and motivate each child in a personal way—building confidence and smiles, as well as skills and better scores.     Executive Director

    Todd is our executive and has a life-long passion for helping kids achieve academic success.  Todd is the first to graduate from college in his family and served in the Marine Corp for twelve years.  He has been running learning centers since 1998 and he fully understands the impact a good education can have on a child's life.  A native Southern Californian, Todd studied at Cal State Fullerton where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Theater Arts. When Todd isn’t working he's a full-time husband and Dad, driving his son from one practice to the next.  He fully understands what every parent goes through, trying to help their child become the best he or she can be.

    Center Assistant

    Anna has been working for Sylvan for about 5 years as a teacher assistant. She loves working with children of all ages. She loves seeing academic improvement. She is currently attending Cal Poly Pomona to pursue her multiple subject teaching credential. When Anna isn't at Sylvan, she enjoys all things art, cooking, shopping, skiing, and going home to San Diego to enjoy the beach.

    ReAndra Johnson

    Teacher Assistant

    ReAndra Johnson was born in Pomona, CA and raised in Upland, CA. In High School she enjoyed participating in Mock Trials and she believed she wanted to be a lawyer. She graduated from Scripps College with a Bachelor of Arts in Legal Studies. While in college she realized that she did not want a career in law but most likely wanted to do something in education. ReAndra has not decided what kind of career in education she wants, but she is passionate about access to quality education for low-income, first generation, students of color.  ReAndra’s favorite things to do in her free time are watch Netflix and eat delicious food. She enjoys finding new shows to watch and trying different cuisines. Her favorite food right now is pasta.

    Allysa is a Teacher Assistant at Sylvan. She has always loved working with young students and tutored Advanced Placement classes in high school. Currently, she is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Literary Studies at Cal Poly Pomona. When Allysa is not so busy she enjoys crocheting, reading, and spending time with her cat Loki.

    Julissa is a teacher in West Covina District. She loves working with younger children K-6. She really enjoys teaching kids how to read and write. She loves to see children succeed.  When Julissa is not at Sylvan she enjoys to cook, exercise and spend time traveling to new places.

    Edgar was born in Los Angeles. He attended Cal State University, Long Beach (CSULB) where he studied mathematics. It was during his time there that he realized he wanted to become a math teacher. Edgar really enjoys math and helping others to understand it as well.  During Edgar’s free time he enjoys hanging out with friends, playing video games, coding and eating delicious food.

    Koji has lived most of her life in Southern California. She attended (CSULA) California State University in Los Angeles and earned her Bachelor's degree in Biology. Koji is very passionate about learning and teaching, she likes to inspire students. She Homeschooled her son for most of his childhood years. She was a CRLA certified tutor and went on to become a middle school teacher. She lives with her husband and son in Hacienda Heights. During Koji’s Free time she enjoys reading and writing about topics in medicine, physics, and chemistry. She loves to spend time with her family watching movies, cooking and going on adventures. Her hobbies include art and crafts, musical theory and instrumentation.

    Rosa received both her Bachelors Degree and Teaching credential from California State University, Los Angeles. Previously, she worked for the Mountain View School District as a substitute. Currently she is teaching High School English in the La Puente area.  Rose loves reading and traveling. She is a Los Angeles Dodgers fan and enjoys playing volleyball and running. Rosa also loves Disneyland.

    Sherry was born and raised in Taiwan. Sherry graduated from Fu-Jen Catholic University in Taiwan with a Bachelor degree of Science.  Sherry came to the US and pursued her graduate studies. She received a Master of Arts degree in Home Economics-Fashion Merchandising from California State University, Long Beach. After having her two children. Sherry switched her passion driven career to education. She has been working as a TA at the Special Education Department of Garvey School District for 16 years.  Sherry has received many acclaims not only for her professionalism and capabilities, but the much genuine love for and patience with the students as well.Off work, Sherry loves home cooking, reading, jogging, and traveling with family. She also enjoys catching up with old friends while always eager to learn new things especially those that may further widen her knowledge base and help in her daily work in children education

    Jessica grew up in the city of El Monte where she completed her education k-12. Upon graduating from South El Monte High School, she attended Rio Hondo College and UCSB (University of California, Santa Barbara) where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in history. She then attended Cal State Fullerton where she obtained her single subject credential in social science. Jessica enjoys running, cooking, and cheering for her favorite football team, the Green Bay Packers. When she does not cook, her favorite food to get is sushi.
